I haven't moved out of my families, I'm scared not to be able to pay my rent, how do I get over it?

I'm in school for medical assisting, I'm 24 and I expect to make 30k a year with a full time position. I was mostly interested in health insurance but I think my family is motivated to get me to move out. In my area, I'd say a place to live would cost 22k a year. So you see the issue. They're convinced that I could be a home owner, but I thought I needed more schooling and experience to be realistic about affording a home. I'm not sure whose delusional here. And I underatand I can rent a room somewhere, but I don't see the point of moving out unless I have my own privacy, so I'd just pay my family a few hundred for a room, that's fine. I'm single with no children and am graduating with approximately 28k in student loan debt, currently it's 14k and I have 4 months left so I could be wrong but that's the max. What do you think?

I think I’m the right person to answer this question. I also went to school to be a medical assistant back in 2012. The plan was get the certificate, get a job, get experience and while doing that go to night school to be an RN. I graduated valedictorian of my class with a 4.0 average.

Never found a job as an MA. Had a killer resume and cover letter. The job market for that was very saturated. Long story short I now work in manufacturing instead making about $60K it’s a killer Union job with killer benefits and killer time off and tuns of perks. I could have gotten this job without the now $14K I have remaining in student debt.

My advice first of all is the MA thing will probably not work out due to job saturation but I do wish you the best.

My next piece of advice is there is no way in hell you can afford a house. I own a house. A nice one. Never mind the mortgage and insurance. Those are just 2 monthly reoccurring expenses. Property taxes are an annual expense. There are other costs to owning a home. If something breaks you gotta fix it. That takes $. You’ll be short on living expenses on $30K a year. Do not buy a house. Your family is wrong about that. You can afford to rent a room or get an apartment with 2-3 roommates. If your family will let you stay there and kick them down some cash awesome. Do that and save as much money as you can. Also be looking for ways to find better career options. If it were possible I’d tell you not to bother being an MA as you can work at McDonald’s and make $15 an hour without student debt and believe me, you’ll be lucky to make $15 as an MA.

My next piece of advice is move out of CA. ASAP after saving up a good 20-30K over and above what you’d need to furnish a 1 bedroom apartment. Moving out of CA immediately lowered my cost of living and raised my wages. I mean immediately.

I sure hope you will get a raise soon. Getting a job for $30k, with $28k of loans is crazy. There is a lot of jobs out there that pay around that not needing any or much education. You're starting out, so that is understandable, but I would be careful until you can really afford yourself. I would make a commitment not to take on any more debt until your finances catch up.

I know no where in the States can you afford an apartment at that salary and have much else to live on. Most people your age and standing would be looking for roommates at the very least. Renting a room is not bad. I would look at a reasonable amortization table of your debt and figure out how to pay that down asap. At your current income your looking at 20 years for payoff and before you strike out on your own. By that time you will be too old to start a family.

I notice you did mention your family wants you to move out. Have you tough about perhaps becoming a nanny for a wealthy family? One of my friends worked as a nanny for this wealthy family she made over$5k monthly. Cooking meals for the kids taking them to sport activities electives, Taking them to the park read books. My friend even got to travel to other countries and curse trips tej family would pay for everything including meals she just had to take care of the kids while the parents had fun. My friend even had to stay and lived with the family home Incase the kids needed anything rent free. It is all focus the kids. Once my friend had . I mean nanny's do get paid good money if they work for a wealthy family there is just a few state requirements depending what place you live but most nanny jobs you don't require a degree. I mean you will making a lot more money as a nanny then as a medical assistant. Medical assistant start off making not so much money and if you think about you will be adding more debt into your pocket.

It's hard, but this is life sunshine.
I hate to compare my story to yours, but I WAS ALSO SCARED just like you, but I had no other choice but to leave because of the Toxic environment.
I had to study, work and live alone all at once, it was hard, YES i somtimes even had 10€ in my banc account, but i'm proud of myself because I MADE IT.
I made it alone, nobody helped and i finished everything and am living my best life now.
Living takes sacrifices, sacrificing meaning being close to your goal. Don't be scared, be scared if you don't have the willpower, and I'm sure you do have the willpower. I'm sure if you have a hard time that your parents will help you.

Looks like you either will need a roommate, a cheaper place to live, another job, get that same job in an area with a lower cost of living, or stay at home.

Getting started is not cheap..

FYI I worked 2 to 4 jobs to make ends meet, it does get easier.

I would look at getting your loans paid down to next to nothing before looking into packing your bags. Your rent and cost of living will be a lot cheaper that way, opposed to having to add that to your monthly expenses. If the family wants to push you out, tell them it will be too tight financially, unless they want to take over the loans. Otherwise, you can't get water from a stone.

I'd say wait until you have that full time position before you push yourself into buying a house or even moving out. Until then it might help if you offer your parents rent. I was your age when I started paying my parents $350/month to live at home. It helped them out while helping me learn how to budget my money. That might buy you more time to stay with your family while you figure out your finances.

decide what you want to get over it first. Rent issue/Fear. If realistically you have come to one then start to moonlight or become webcam model or search for affordable govt housing schemes. Search for hostel/Pg. Start to visit people with whatever you do at your workplace ask your family to loan you or come to India, Gimme hug and enjoy

Honestly if your parents want to get rid of you as fast as possible I don't think they're very good parents.

Your parents should be supporting you until after you've settled in with a decent job and some savings.

If you're trying to buy a house now or rent with a 30k salary you're going to be living paycheck to paycheck with lots of stuff to worry about.

It's a good thing you don't have children otherwise it could be a lot more stressful.

You need to find a roommate or a boyfriend you can leech off of or give yourslef a reality check and move into a studio apartment. You can't afford a champagne lifestyle on your beer budget. Fact.

Please do not rent and flush your money down the toilet. Stay at home for at least another 5 years. Trust me in 5 years you’ll be engaged and then you and your spouse will have saved enough money to buy a house for your kids.

I don't understand. 30 is greater than 22. You will have a LOT of money left over! (More than $600 each month!). Just don't buy an expensive car and you'll be golden.

You have multiple options once your credit is up. Working with a realtor you could qualify for down payment assistance, grants and first time buyer.
