So I’m really wondering why I am the unluckiest person ever. I’m 26 and never had a long term relationship. In HS, I never got asked out. I tried the dating apps in 2012, have been using them on and off since. It’s been almost a month since I stopped using them & plan to keep it that way hopefully. I always figured that because I’m chubbier, maybe that’s why I’m always single. I lost weight & am still alone. Why I use apps? I don’t have a social life (only “online friends”) and when I used to go out with people I called “friends”, I never got approached. I only get noticed by the men I would not want. When I do get noticed by men physically attractive, it always goes to shit. Only the unattractive ones are usually a bit more promising. I tell my parents my bad luck & clearly they can’t relate. My mom met her partner of 15 years in a chat room & my dad has been steady with another woman for a few years. My parents are out of shape and not college educated, I hate to sound rude. I’m thick too but try to take care of my appearance and have a decent job, degree & own my place. What more does a man want from me? I get mixed reviews on the dating apps, 50-50 for success & fail stories.

So I purchased my condo around a year ago & worked with realtor around my age. She’s maybe a few months older than me, she’s friendly and good at what she does. I shared a few personal things with her, fears when it came to buying my place. She follows me on IG and used to check in during the holidays. She shared a few things with my mom and I, when she worked with me during the buying process, she mentioned she was still renting. Also mentioned that she went through a few tough times personally and how her finances were affected in the process. Mind you, I see her IG and FB, she seems pretty comfortable. During these “financial issues”, she’s been traveling all around the country. Goes on nice vacations and has a lot of friends, mentioned that before she bought a duplex earlier this year, she and her boyfriend rented an apt. The apt was like 2k a month, yes, I get having help with the rent helps but that’s a lot for a person with financial issues. In less than a year from when I bought my place is when she bought her duplex. I’m not hating, I’m just saying, I don’t buy her “struggles” story.

I think she was sharing that story to come across as more relatable & possibly humble. We are the minority (she’s white) but yeah am I just jaded?

Hello, my relationship is about 2 years long with my boyfriend. At the beginning, he was lying to me a lot about important things along with doing suspicious stuff like giving another girl his jacket (he didn’t find that action in itself wrong, he viewed it as being a helpful friend), and romantic history. I didn’t know that he was lying then, and thought our relationship was going great even though I was a little more emotional during that time. He came clean because one of his friends told me 10 months in, and he apologized for his actions.

Not to sound narcissistic, but I have done a lot for him that he doesn’t appreciate. I have given him gifts and food, not expecting anything in return. I gave him oral and was waiting patiently until he was ready to do the same for me. I had a confrontation with him about not feeling appreciated enough in bed since I do what he wants and even got on birth control he wanted for him. He said he expresses his gratitude in other ways, but all I can respond to that is “how” since he doesn’t do anything outside of the bedroom as well besides hanging out and maybe food here or there.

I also haven’t been the best partner myself recently because I had to contact a male friend he hates to do some heavy lifting at my mom’s house. He was upset that I took that opportunity “away from him” whereas I’ve been asking him everyday on when he’d come but didn’t give me any response to that. He hates every male friend I have, and always makes me feel bad for wanting to hang out with them especially if I haven’t seen them in a while. Is it normal to feel like I haven’t been appreciated enough? He tells me he’s not good enough as well when I try to discuss things of this nature, and I’m tired of it. I’m not sure on what to do because every time I just want reassurance, he makes me feel bad for asking by playing the victim card and turn the tables so it can be about him.
