But how could this be done efficiently. Did "humane" even matter now. The long drop was most common, having the condemned drop a calculated distance to ensure that the neck broke and thus Consciousness was lost eliminating suffering in almost all cases. But was this efficient or practical enough? Gallows could be built in easily maintained and done much faster with the short drop. Forward hang at once although it wasn't likely their neck would break. So there would be more suffering.
