I’ve been dating my girlfriend Lucy for a year. Lucy has a lot of good values. She’s smart with her money and has no debt. We’re thinking about getting married in the new year. I’m 33 and she’s 43, so there’s no time waste. But 90% of her friends are male, so only has 3 female friends. Which is kind of strange to me. She’s not a tomboy, these dudes aren’t gay, so why would she be so close to other men? She has a guy friend Alex that she texts a lot. Every time Alex has a girlfriend she doesn’t like his relationship with Lucy. Also, Alex doesn’t text Lucy as often when he’s dating, and Lucy gets pissed that he’s neglected. I wrote about this in another question.

We’ve had arguments about her male friends and she told me that I’m “too jealous”, and that she’ll stop hanging around men for our relationship. She showed me her texts to prove there’s nothing going on with the guys, but I’m still uncomfortable.

On the flip side she hates that my best friend is a 69 year old woman whom I FaceTime once awhile. So how can I accept her guy friends and she doesn’t like me being friends with an elderly woman? She also got mad at me for going a girls apartment with a crowd.

I've been dating her for 4 months. She posted her story on another forum. She initially refused to share her childhood until I informed her I needed to know everything. It wasn't fair that while I shared information about my life and secrets, she was withholding things.

This is what I got:
- She was arrested and locked up when she was only 10 years old for 2 GBH (grievous bodily harm) charges on two small kids.
- Several months later she got transferred to an institute and treated there.
- She got released when she was 16 and monitored during her HS years, followed by continued therapy sessions and evaluations.
- She was molested and raped by pedophiles her mother left her alone with. While locked up, she had a miscarriage; one of those POS had impregnated her.
- At the time her anger was towards small boys mainly, not girls.
- She used to take it out on living things (killing a couple pets) too and claimed to at some point felt nothing.
- She's now 21 years old and expressed remorse for everything. She claimed to have been fully rehabilitated.

I'm not an angel myself. Even though I've not done the things she did (I didn't harm an animal nor kid like she did); I used to be an alcoholic and at some point used drugs. Sometimes I would steal things. Like her, I underwent rehab sessions and I'm at a better position in life now. I believe someone with a violent past can change. What do you think?
