So I have a best friend of over 10 years
Since high school

she's really independent
She lives by herself.. pays her own bills, etc

She travels every year.
But she doesn't have a car
she's still on her learners license too.. for over 4 years

She could have gotten her full license by now if she tells her dad to teach her how to drive

She doesn't want to own a car
So she can pay her rent, bills, go travelling every year
So she relies on public transport

I still live with my family
But I pay my own bills
I have a family car so I have to share the car with my dad and brother
I can drive the car 2 or 3 days a week
And I pay for the petrol sometimes
And maintenance
We all share the payments if my parents need help

Then she ask me:
"Are u saving up for a car yet? You should get your own car, be more independent"

I told her:
"Owning a car is expensive here.. we have to pay registration, insurance, maintenance & servicing, car loans, petrol.. every year"

Why would she ask me that?
So I can drive her around and be her uber driver?

So basically every since I got my first car my dad was nice enough to pay my insurance for me, about $220/month, and I paid for everything else. Recently, few months ago, I got into my first accident which was at fault and now my insurance has basically more than doubled and after its renewed next month it will be 500 something per month. So I've spent basically all day shopping around and calling different insurance companies for quotes. My dad is pissed saying he's not going to pay that much and I don't blame him for it but he and my mom got into a huge fight (divorced, have been since I was 4) and now my mom is blaming me saying it's my fault for all the swear words and shit that she had to here from my dad. I don't see how it's my fault but she's saying it's my fault because I never talk to my dad about my insurance but I was going to after I called around and found the best price I could. She's the one who chose to call him before I finished doing all that. Anyways so she tells me to call my dad and tell him to call her and apologize or else she'll never talk to me again. So is it my fault? Cause I don't think it is.

In high school I was really close to a boy. He was 16, I was 17 going on 18. I got pregnant. I love kids, but he's never wanted a kid. I had to choose my baby or my guy, and I chose my baby. I never asked him to take care of her. I didn't even ask for child support until he asked me why I hadn't filed for it yet when she was a few months old. He paid $30 /mo the first year, then he hit 18 and has paid $148 /mo ever since after we had it adjusted.

He's never had to take care of her for a single day of her life. She does not know that he exists. I have not asked for an increase in child support in 11 years. He and I have stayed good friends, and we rarely discuss her together. During one discussion he said he listed she and I in his life insurance policy, and he plans to buy her a car and help her with a house when she's older and we tell her about him.

We've been struggling a bit financially. I would like to be able to continue to provide her with the best quality of life possible. I have tried to bring up an increase in child support, and he brushed it off with saying that his money is tied up in real estate investments. I didn't ask for a specific number, just whatever he could spare. I don't want to push him to want to help provide for her, and as his friend I don't want to go through child support enforcement to force an increase when we could just talk it out.

Would you simply offer more in this scenario or would you also have the mother of your child go through courts to increase the amount? I'm mostly just curious about how other people would respond.

He has no other kids or financial obligations other than the basics and some slight credit debt. His wife makes more than him, so he's not supporting her. He has a house, cars, steady work, etc. I paid for him to get fixed when he was ready for that and money was tight for him. He's offered to help through tight spots before, but I always told him we'd be fine.
