So I have been single for my entire life. Since I have been in my late teens, I have been concerned about my single status. Maybe I have a reason to be or maybe I have too high of an opinion of myself. But I don’t get how a relationship has not presented itself for 25 years. And the few times guys have shown “interest” (can’t tell if it’s platonic or romantic), it isn’t by a guy I’d usually pursue. And I know women get approached by guys they actually fancy.

I was bitching with my mother the other day at breakfast. And I feel she may have said this out of being annoyed. But she said that “you are alone because you choose to be”. And that kind of hit me hard. I don’t think it’s true. And one day I was saying that when my brothers (now teen boys) get a girlfriend, they will be on their own and I will still be hanging out with my remaining family. She said “if you stay single for that long, that’s your choice”.

I think she lacks empathy and doesn’t understand because she met my dad at 18 and they were married for 10 years. I feel like I am one of those women that don’t get noticed by the opposite sex regardless of the effort I put into my appearance.

Does anyone see where I’m coming from?

Me: While I understand where you're coming from, every guy that has told me that line ended up wanting a hook up/ wasn't sure about what they want so I'm wary of that

Him: I don't do hookups. That's too weird for me. I know what I want. The purpose of dating is to find someone I will spend my life with. Someone who will laugh at my dad jokes 😝. Someone who will treat me with as much respect I give you. I'm 27 and in my eyes I'm looking to find my wife. I had my party stage in life. I'm too old for that 😂😂.

Me: If you want a "wife" why would you have to take it slow? It should just go with the vibes. I've had enough shitty experiences on this app I'm not going to invest in another one that will waste my time.

Him: Because I've rushed the past few relationships and it's turned out poorly. I mean it's not like it'll be turtle speed. Hell, me moving slow is still fast for some people.

Me: Look, I've had a share of poor experiences too and this is why I've written off dating to some degree. I keep the app up because I don't really have another way to meet people, as a way of keeping my options open. Your statement was a flashback to what took place previously w/ someone else and I ended up stop talking to him. So at this point, I'm indifferent and don't really have anything else to say.

Too many times I have seen girlfriends, or even guy friends, enter into a marriage to find out what their "dream come true's" downside was only after it was too late.

Wouldn't this be your worst nightmare?

My dad always tells me to make sure you have at least 2 or 3 really good knock-down-drag-out fights with anyone you are thinking of spending the rest of your life with so that you really know who they are and what their worst side looks like.

Do you know anyone who has seen the "dark side" of someone after it was too late?

Haven't you read GAG post after post about this type of thing with the question..."What do I do?" ..."Please Help!"?
