My boyfriend and I have been going back and forth about this. He had bad relationships in the past with women who were either controlling or abusive and I've had the same (with men). He's even said he wished he could be gay (and tried to be but found it wasn't for him) because of how badly they hurt him. He says he needs to be the dominate and has that old school mentality but he's much younger than me (not 50 shades of grey dominate, just the one in charge). He says I'm the love of his life and usually dotes on me and is very thoughtful of my feelings most of the time.

I don't mind this for the most part but sometimes he talks down to me when I don't deserve it. He usually apologizes when I point it out but my ego takes a hit every time. I don't know how to convince him I'm not like those other women.
