Should people who commit heinous sexual crimes be castrated? You hear people say things along these lines whenever the topic of their punishment is brought up, but it isn't actually a thing.

Should it be?

The argument made is that by taking away the source of their sex drive and therefore perversion, you nullify any risk of them reoffending going forward. This would greatly increase chances of rehabilitation, which is the best case scenario when prosecuting someone.

For men it would likely be permanent damage to or removal of the testicles, and the same for the clitoris on women. The penis on men and more invasive surgeries on women have too much risk for complication, whereas those are shockingly simple.

Are people on the whole for or against this type of punishment? Do you believe it is justified, or borderline barbaric?

Norway’s right wing mass murderer is up for parole soon. It’s causing a lot of debate on the country’s liberal prison sentences. Make no mistake, he’s never getting out. But the issues are still there.

Is prison to reform criminals or punish them? If a mass murderer can prove he’s changed, why should he not be paroled? Softball question, for sure.

Do you see prison as a consequence or punishment? Should the justice system be emotional? Every time I hear arguments for the death penalty it’s coming from emotion.

FYI- Norway has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Up there with Japan, another liberal justice system with shorter sentences.
