It is not a good punishment/solution from a psychological point of view but one of the best ones from administrative point of view.
I can understand from school's point of view, it is easier for them to suspend than to give punishments like a parent would.
But when a kid is suspended, I think it is the parent's job to ditch the traditional getting angry, yelling at the kid methods. I don't have any experience as a parent yet, but as a kid I can tell that the traditional methods listed do not work. Grounding is a different thing.
Kids and teenagers often do not know how to express their feelings except through anger. So you must also know if the kid is trying to express some kind of feeling or is just more on the side of pure evil.
The stronger and deeper the feeling, the more the anger is.

The truth is that schools don't have the time or resources to baby sit your ill behaving kids, so they put on the parent to deal with it at home. As should be the case... its the schools place to raise your children. There a thing called in school suspension and that sucks pretty bad, and is hellish boring. But it takes school resources to have in school suspensions, resources that could be applied to programs that promote good behavior instead of punishing bad.
So yes I agree to an extend, because I had both home and in school suspensions in my time as kid. Home school was a vacation for me, but suspension in general did not deter me from being a pain in the ass. But I turned out okay.
No doubt as it’s vacation from the crazy ole Nun with that damn ruler…come see my scars and thank God my Asset is not as crooked as my devil possessed writing left hand is🙃. For damn sure I listened and behaved.

When I was married, my irresponsible stepson took a paintball gun to school and shot another kid from the window of a moving car. He was not only suspended, but was not allowed to graduate with his class.
It’s to give the teacher a break from kids who are constantly on the disrupt. Can’t imagine it’s easy to teach geography and parent at the same time..
The point is not to punish. The point is to separate the person from the rest of the class/school, so they are no longer disrupting the students who are being productive.

Not anymore, it's free time off. When I was a kid, I'd have ran away from home if I received a suspension. I doubt I would have been able to sit for a week.
Nope, I had bullies in School and they would get 3 days suspension and come back to School to bully me more it never worked... I should have taken the School District to court filed a Civil Complaint against them on grounds of severe bullying
Yeah, I kond of feel if the kids is the rype to be suspended he isn't going to mind missing school and wouldn't see the significance in it. Don't see it as an effective punishment.
Wjhen I was a kid there were 3 day suspensions. I never got one but I always thought it was a lame punishment. I think Saturday detention would make a better punishment.
Well it's only bad if it put social pressure on the kid. Like when he came back, he's the kid who got suspended etc...
That's what the punishment is supposed to inflict I imagine. But I don't think it really works.
Of they are a danger to other students or disruptive to other learning you take them out so that others can get on. And you hope their parents will intervene and try to set on the right tracks
For a kid, that just means they not learning from the boring old teacher.
For a parent, you are punishing two souls.
The idea behind it is that the parents will be inconvenienced and will make the kids life a living hell during that time to ensure better future behavior. Without good parenting, it is definitely an ineffective punishment
No I don't. It would have been more of a punishment if a teacher keep me after school but that would also punish the teacher and dad. Suspended/detention was an escape.

No. Give them a punishment that doesn't require their parents to take time off, like scraping gum from under tables etc.
Hanging my Chemistry teacher out the second-story window of his classroom by his feet for pushing me? Yeeeeaaahhh, that was suspension time.
It's a useless punishment but it gives the school a break. lol
