Search Results: we have nothing in common

Everywhere I look it's failing. The people who are doing the representing have nothing in common with the people they're supposed to stand for and it shows in the results. And it's super easy to corrupt one person. Maybe in the past when there were small communities this kind of system could work but today it seems so unrealistic. In Switzerland we have a semi direct democracy which means the people can stop the government from doing something they don't like directly and can also propose laws themselves with enough signatures. This makes our government like a well trained dog because they know we will stop them if they try and fuck us over so they don't even try most of the time.

A lot of people say this only works because it's a small country and it's unrealistic etc. But I think the administrative cost is nothing compared to the damage that's caused by corruption. Having a broken system just because it's more convenient is very short sighted.

i don't mind it becoming a state but as of normal balance of power argument meaning I think Puerto Rico is going to be a democratic state so to keep it fair conservative state (i vote dividing eastern Washington and Oregon into one state if thats the case east and west of the Cascades cascades in both states are as different as texas and california)

Independence, why not they don't get to vote in elections they mostly speak Spanish (not a rip on Spanish speakers the fact is English is the common language in every other state) its a culture that comes more from the Spanish where the main US comes mainly from britain or at least the philosophy does (we are a melting pot)
