My parents are divorced and my dad is in his late 50s. My dad was going to be homeless if I had not intervened 9 months ago. He was facing eviction from his apartment following a job loss and because I did not want him to be homeless, I offered to let him live with me. I have told him though this is only to allow him to get back on his feet and that he needs to get a job. Currently, he works a minimum wage job at a local grocery store and I have reminded him on a number of occasions that he needs to continue to look for work elsewhere because that job will not meet his living expenses. However, he responds with things such as "I never have time to look for another job." I then tell him that his excuse is unacceptable and he responds by saying he can decrease his hours and then he will look for a job. The issue I have with his job is that he only works 40 hours per week and I find it hard to believe you cannot sit at a computer and fill out job applications. On top of this, when ever I get home, I always find him asleep and I am frustrated with him saying he cannot look for a job because he does not have enough time to look, but has enough time to sleep on the couch all day after he gets of work at 3 pm. Furthermore, I also have got him numerous times about messes he makes and I have to get on him about cleaning up after himself, but he has said on numerous occasions "its not my house, so I am not responsible for cleaning up." This is beyond frustrating to me, I am letting him live at my house for free and he thinks because it is not his house, he does not have to clean up. I know can understand why mom left him years ago. Recently, I have been getting on him more often about the situation but he just blows me off. Now, I am deciding about kicking him out, but it is a hard decision. However, I feel like he is wanting to drag me down with him.
