Search Results: jerks first good nice guys last

So, I'm 23 year old, I've met this girl over the web, we got along very well as we were able to talk every day for hours, at first I thought she's 17(very young, I know) but I really liked everything about her, how much nice and a good person she is, her personality and how she looks, how we agree about everything..etc, I know she liked me too, a lot and we were practically in a long distance relationship and really happy together, and even making plans about how we can work it out and how and when we will meet...etc

Then I found out she's only 15, and I immediately ended the relationship, which I feel it was very harsh from me but the worst is that I don't even know if it's the right decision, because there's still that sound inside of me telling me that if I've found the perfect girl for me, and we really love each other, so nothing else

should matter.. but in the same time, the fact that she's a lot younger doesn't seem right for me, and I don't know about girls, but guys really change a lot between the age of 15 and till they're fully mature.

Left to say that she isn't that kind of girls who would be in a relationship with anyone, she's shy, easy to trust and she easily gets happy and satisfied and I believe I was really making her happy, and I can't stand the idea of her getting hurt by some jerk out there. On the other hand, I've never really been in a relationship, last time I dated someone was three years ago and I'm just looking forward to finish college and get a good job, I think I'm a very nice and good person too and I would never do something that would hurt her.

In the end, we really live far away from each other, and we can't imagine our first meeting before at least 3 or 4 years, but I'm okay with waiting and so is she.

So, the question is, have I done the right thing or I should have believed in this relationship? is it fair for her and me to be in a relationship like this? what do you all think? and thanks for helping

I've always been fascinated with the "nice guys finish last" and "the jerks get the girls" debate. Let's set up a little scenario.

Two guys, both are considered very good looking. Every variable besides their personalities are the same.

Guy 1 is more of the shy, quiet type. He treats everyone with respect, and isn't full of himself. He doesn't talk much at first, and isn't very social, but can open up at times when he's comfortable. He doesn't like to draw attention to himself, and his shyness may get the best of him at times, but everyone who knows him has great respect for him and say he's a nice guy.

Guy 2 is the social butterfly, a smooth operator and knows the right things to say to a woman. Sometimes this confidence gets the best of him, and he can come off a little jerkish and can get on people's nerves at times. But, he is the epitome of a confident attitude and everyone knows of his presence.
