Recently my new partner and I started talking about sexual boundaries. When saying that I don't have a lot of positive experience and would prefer to go slow, he looked confused because of my age and bluntly asked if I was a virgin.

I don't want to lie. And became visibly increasingly uncomfortable with the topic. I said it was hard to explain. He kept asking whether I was or not. Eventually I said "technically yes" But I feel scared and guilty.

I wear a purity ring. I don't want to lie to him and build a foundation of distrust, but I also don't want to tell him that a couple years ago 2 of my friends and my ex raped me. I don't want him to know that. It's embarrassing. And I don't think any man would believe me anyway or take it well if they did know. I don't want that kind of attention. And I'm scared if any male knows they got away with it then he would try to assault me too.

What should I do?

So I’m a catholic girl. I've gone to church every Sunday since growing up. I recently met this Islamic guy. His families Muslim. I really really like him. I’m not sure if his family don’t like me because I’m catholic. He says that he’d “rather an innocent than a tainted girl”. And is glad I’m a Virgin. I’m not sure if that just a guy thing or a religion thing. I know in Catholicism you are supposed to remain pure until marriage. But he wants me to lose my virginity to him. I’m 17 and he’s 22. Yeah so I don't know. I told him I don’t want to and he keeps trying to convince me otherwise. I do trust him, I just dont want him to lose interest either. Any advice? this is lowkey such a fucking weird question for non religious people. Like I don’t care what other people do. I think it just has to do with the way I’ve been raised.

He went from being heads over heels for me and addicted (his words), discussing meeting my family and marriage, to breaking up suddenly. But he didn't ditch me/ghost afterwards and kept talking almost daily as he said he wanted us to stay friends and keep me close (we still talk 9 months after the break up although we had a phase where we didn't speak) but he keeps on saying we need to move on.

In his break up message he said that he was "Scared" , he said that he liked me and could still like me, but that he felt that there were too many obstacles (I assume he means the distance, and the fact that we are not ready for marriage because we're both students). That he didn't want to drag me for years without the certainty of marriage since he still needs 4 years or so before being able to get married. That he is scared my parents want me to marry someone from my country, and he is scared because so many men wanted me.

Some of the mistakes I've done as a woman when I think about the relationship retroactively:

- Once mentioned to him that my mom prefers me marrying someone from my country.
- Talked about other guys to make him jealous and get his attention (I'm immature i know). Turns out it made him insecure, i think.
- Told him about a guy who wanted to propose to me.

PS:
- We're both 24
- Both (religious) virgins waiting for marriage
- His religiosity often made him guilty over being overly sexually attracted to me
- It was an online relationship , we both live in Europe but in different countries.
- None of us has had a previous relationship.
- None of us dated or looked to date after the break up.

I don't want to give him up because I feel like we're soulmates (although I don't believe in the concept).
