I know a lot of Americans love of claim they're British solely by a surname when they know next to nothing about being British. And I've noticed this trend of them using British words/terms in the utterly wrong context.

For an easy example, there's an American kiddie's show called Fairy Godparents. In the UK fairy is a nasty slang for gays as is one of the character's names (Poof).

Or with an American I had a bit of a kaffle. After hello, a very very brief how you doing chat, when we part ways he's taken to saying cheers. In the UK yes it can mean goodbye but it's a friendly sort of goodbye. Certainly not something said if you're at odds with someone... and he barely says two words any other time... so he's confusing the fuck out of me cause of using cheers.
