I’m a woman so I figured I’d be making life easier for the guys. I typically let the guy make the first move but sometimes get bored of no connection and lack of consistent messages with these men. When I message guys first, I typically get a response/they take forever to respond/ or they stop messaging. I usually do this when I get continuous lackluster messages from guys. I try to put the ball in my court but it doesn’t work out.

I don’t think dating should be this difficult for me. I am told I’m good looking and most good looking women get approached without no effort from a man. I’ve been on dating apps for years and still no boyfriend.

My mother thinks that I’m waiting for Prince Charming to land on my lap and should be more proactive if I want to find company. But I try once in a while to make the first move and it doesn’t work. Why can’t I find a partner like everyone else?

So this guy and I began conversing through a dating app a few days ago. He messaged me first and I never responded. He followed up the next day and I answered his question. He then asks for my IG and give it to him, he follows me and I follow back. From there, he messages me and I respond, then he follows up the next day to see how I was doing.

There hasn’t been much communication but I think he’s not interested in talking to me anymore. Up until yesterday, he was initiating conversation with me. And I respond to one of his messages from yesterday, he sees it and doesn’t respond. I sent him a message asking how his day was today and he responds, doesn’t ask how I’m doing. I respond stating that he sounds like he has a lot going on, he doesn’t follow up asking how my day was. He’s been viewing my stories and asked questions up to this point, asking me Tuesday if I want to go get sushi. Also, he complimented my appearance.

Has he changed his mind? I know I’m putting too much pressure on the communication, I just find this tends to happen with guys I speak to, especially from dating apps. They take initiative for the most part, I follow up once/twice and then things dwindle?

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I have such bad luck with men. I’m told I’m attractive etc but can’t find someone that I have a mutual interest in.

I made a dating profile a few years ago and used my best photos. Mildly filtered, but filtered nonetheless. I consider it a stupid decision because each person I met using that profile (two guys at different times) both ended up being jackasses. Before I get attacked, I did not look like a different person at all, I just put my best photos online. It wasn’t like a catfishing situation where we met in person and I was 50 pounds heavier and way uglier than my pics. I still looked like myself, just myself at my absolute best.

Those relationships failed. I decided to try again online, only this time, I put no filtered photos. I put front facing full body shots, selfies from bad angles with poor lighting, photos with no makeup and my hair in a ponytail, etc. while I got a significantly smaller number of responses, I actually met someone who is good for me, who isn’t judgmental, who doesn’t expect me to be perfect, and I am currently in the best relationship I’ve ever been in.

It could be a complete coincidence, it could all be timing, I’m aware of that, but it got me thinking. Does starting with your best photos yield better results, or is it best to show just how “ugly” you can be, so people know what to expect? I seem to have had more solid luck with the latter.
