You hear this argument all the time: Minority groups aren't experiencing systemic racism, the racial disparity between them and white people exist due to "individual decisions". Well there's no doubt that individual choices can make a difference in terms of how much success different individuals experience, if racial disparities are due to individual choices, white and black people would have the same probability of making good versus bad choices. So while individual citizens can explain the difference in success between a black and white person, it can't explain observed racial disparities across society as a whole. To give an analogy, if you flip a dime and a nickel 10 times each and the dime comes up heads 6 times and the nickel 4, that disparity is probably just due to random chance and you would assume that both coins have a 50/50 chance of coming up heads. If you flip them 100 times and the dime comes up heads 59 times and the nickel 42, that's starting to look suspicious. If you flip them 1000 times and you get a 603/399 disparity, well that could still be a fluke but if you flip them 100000 times, and have a 599764/401235 disparity, yeah check those coins. Similarly, for individual choices to account for racial disparities would be a statistical impossibility. So I know all you anti-BLM chuds like to say "I'm not a racist because I think black people can succeed like anyone else", first of all, former slaves became millionaires so some successful black people doesn't mean we don't have a problem with racism but the what you think is irrelevant because the fact is that they don't. This leaves 2 possibilities, either there are societal barriers that make it more difficult to succeed for black people or their somehow inferior. If you reject the former, you accept the latter so own up to your racism and quit trying to project. And before you scream "black culture", culture is influenced by socioeconomic circumstances, not the other way around.

Are "cool" nerds actual nerds?

This is my Hot Take and all, but... Being a true nerd, I obviously say No, you cannot be cool, social, attractive, have a successful dating/sex life, not be intelligent, and still try to call yourself a "nerd."

We've watched nerd culture get taken over by normies, and then been kicked out of it by them for being "toxic" or some bullsh*t. I'm sick of the liberal, Andrew-Garfield-like posers and hipsters who lift weights, have abs or huge boobs, are "sexy looking," have an equally attractive girlfriend or boyfriend, popular and social, and generally just got into the thing 'they claim to be about' last year, trying to call themselves "nerds." Can't we have ONE thing to ourselves?

Call it "gate-keeping" if you want; I don't give a f***. Cool/popular/athletic/attractive/sociable people cannot be "nerds." You're just hipsters "culturally appropriating" nerd culture because Mark Zuckerberg became a billionaire and you like money, too.
