Search Results: being too mature in a relationship

I've always been jealous in my relationship. My boyfriend told me he has a friend from his hometown he's known since he was 16. They're 26 now. They've had sex once as teens apparently, and he says she's a good friend now and wants to hang out with her when he goes back home. I got upset and in the end told him I did not want them spending time alone. He got mad I didn't trust him but then agreed he wouldn't see her. A few days later she texted him and he hid his phone, eventually confessing she had texted him saying hi and he knew I'd be mad.

Weeks later and I realized I was being too controlling to the point where he felt like he had to hide things. I apologized and said that I wanted him to feel like he could tell me things and that if he wanted to hang out with this friend he could. Was that the right thing to do? I realize sometimes the right thing isn't always the easy thing.
