I can't speak for all black men obviously, but the general idea is that white women are more appreciative of black men, more feminine, better mannered, and generally less drama. While more black women tend to be bossy, entitled, have foul attitudes, unfeminine/butch, less hygienic, and generally a pain in the ass to deal with and are never satisfied.
Me personally? I don't care about race one bit. But I have zero tolerance for hood rats or ghetto trash, no matter WHAT race they are. (And where I grew up in Philadelphia, there were plenty of white hood rats and Caucasian girls who were ghetto trash.)
Good decent classy black women tend to have zero problems finding decent men to date. But hell, good, decent, classy women seem to be hard to find nowadays, in general. Seems like every Western woman nowadays is either a feminist, a lesbian/gay ("queer, bisexual;" same exact difference), a single mother, or some combination of the three.
No, I have plenty of Black friends. They will tell you the same thing. Black women have attitudes and the ones with degrees think they are entitled to have an ego for some reason. White women by and large are more submissive and feminine. That's why they gravitate towards them. The same trend is starting to happen with white men. More of them are going to Asian women because in general they are more submissive and feminine still. Basically western women got this dumb ass idea that they need to be on a man's playing field. What they failed to realize is that men have zero sexual attraction to women with masculine energy. The "delicate flower" is the ideal type of woman for the vast majority of us.
Maybe it wasn't just because she was white.
Maybe they connected better and she just happened to be white.
Even so, each individual has their own preferences.
There are plenty of black men that like and prefer black females.

The sterotype of the loud, mouthy, aggressive, money grasping, utterly unfeminine black woman might have something to do with it.
If you look through YouTube, you will see plenty of black women who conform to that sterotype.
You will also find black content creators in the Manosphere who talk about the behaviour of black women.
Donovan Sharpe, Tommy Sotomayor, Kevin Samuels, Fresh and Fit, and Replicant Fish have covered the subject.
White women and non black women in general have something that black women don't have which black men deeply value and worship and is white skin and European features such as hair and facial dynamics.
Opposites attract sometimes and those two want each other apparently.
There's no point in black women being stuck on only dating black guys, just like there's no point in white men being hung up on white women.
As I am a pale skinned human, I have no idea. As a man, I am attracted to all kinds of women and skin color is not an issue. If I think that the lady is pretty or beautiful, that is what I am attracted to.
Various reason, probably. Or maybe they just liked them.

That's not statistically true. Most people aren't in interracial relationships
They are the true White Supremacists. They should be embarrassed for having such low self esteem but that fits right in with every other group these days
