Would you like to be holded by your boyfriend when you are solving a complicated math problem?

Wouldn't that hug or physical affection be a distraction?

The golden rule is as follows: ask your guy if he can pause the game right now: if he can't, then don't bother him and tell him "take a break after gaming and let's spend time together"

If he can pause the game, then he probably is not in an important stage of game (note: there are times when one would hesitate to pause a single player game too, like fighting an annoying boss for 15th time)

Depends on the game for me. If it's something like COD then no, I'm tense and fully focused on the game. My playing well depends on my ability to focus and react.

I primarily play rpg's though and they tend to be slower story driven games with good character development. Typically a decent love story develops along the main plot as characters get to know each other, some are also incredibly tragic and morose or melancholic. I do like physical affection when I play those games and I really like it if she gets caught up in the story with me

Some guys do, some don’t.

I would assume that most do not because they are focused on playing games, and they don’t want any distractions. It’s just not the right time to bother them with that while they’re focused on not losing or dying in the same. Some guys take gaming very serious.

As for my boyfriend, he doesn’t mind it, but he’s very focused and any distractions such as someone talking or someone touching him, it would definitely annoy him if it was constant. I try to leave him alone when he plays games.

They do but it really depends on what they're doing. So Elden Ring is out, it's a hard game with hard bossfights. I think that if he's stuck at a boss for hours and finally about to win, he would not like it if I would hug him during that fight, it could distract him or maybe annoy him more than he already is. But if he gets the win and I go in for the cuddle After, I think he'll just come and lay on my lap like a puppy dog

it's not the matter of physical affection, its a matter of distractions.
although it is a cliché, its completely true that most men can't focus on 2 things at once. so if we are in the middle of a game, lets say Cod or racing or dark souls or something else that creates tension due to skill exertion, then anything that calls for our attention will disrupt our gaming and we'll be annoyed, sometimes even mere running the hand through our hair is distracting since we might be in a "combative" state.
but if its a chill game, like a stratigy game, or sims then i don't see a reason why it would be annoying. but sometimes we want the game time to just be game time, with nothing else (no cat, no mother, no girlfriend/wifw, no friends, no nothing - just relaxing).

It depends on what game and what kind of affection. Personally, I'm a huge fan of physical touch in general, but if I'm playing competitive multiplayer (which is the case a lot of the time), I generally don't want to be distracted. For something more casual, though, I wouldn't mind being held or even sat on as long as it's not in the way of my view or controls.

I like difficult video games, and yes, affection can distract me and make me lose, but I will have plenty of time to retry.

That said, I'm only interested in women who also play difficult video games, so odds are affection will be in between gaming sessions, rather than during.

Depends on the gamer, and the game. If he's a steamer and/or it's a shooter, he's probably heavily invested in it and distractions or obstructions would be found irritating. Then again, if he chooses pixels over partner, there might be a deeper issue.
