I've been single for like a decade.

Every once in a while I'll almost get into a relationship when some petty drama reminds me that being single is way better than being in a bad relationship.

Once asked a girl who approached me, "So you said you work in a scientific field. What kind of scientific field do you study?"

Sudden tone shift: "Umm what is THAT supposed to mean?"

Nope. Nooooope. I can smell that toxic garbage from here. Immediately trying to fabricate a fight. Almost straight-up said "Oh I see, so it clearly isn't psychology." But I have to be the better person.

And if it feels better, be friendly when they reject you so they can remember what they turned down when their hubris inevitably comes to bite them in the ass.

A good relationship supports you and motivates your better side to support them.

A bad relationship feels like some weird period between you meeting her and her formulating a reason to hate you.

A good relationship is informal and doesn't have clear labels or stages. Just "I like this human and want to be around them more".

A bad relationship is dragged by the mask of formalities and the confusion of labels.

So a good relationship is better than being single. But being single is still like 90% of the way there compared to a bad relationship.

Depends on the perspective. Some taken people miss the times when they were single or when they had time for themselves.

As a single and touch-starved person, being alone against my will sucks.
