  Have to agree. It's no sleight against Americans (it's a new country), but having lived there. There are subtle nuances but you can go hundreds of miles and hear the same accent between some States. California for instance compared to Boston, New York. Texas, deep south there is a definite difference. But I'd pretty much say there's only maybe half a dozen. We Brits can have half a dozen totally unique dialects in 20 miles, America every thousand miles. American is a pretty generic accent. Boston, New York and the south directly influenced by Irish, Italian and Cornwall/Devon.

  Can count your accents on one hand basically. Though you have to admit Boston is unique as is Texas. Basically it's generic. I live in Ohio but visited many States and all 'SAME'

  I'm American but because of my family having accents and the places I've been I've got a bit of a mixed accent but I love it even though I feel way to shy to say anything to anyone because they always get way to excited and that's not a bad thing but gosh it's a bit scary cuz people usually don't get excited about my accent but I'm also just not a very social person all the time I'm kinda a mix between social and antisocial.
