Do you try to be altruistic or do you have your own agenda?

I think at first everyone has to have their own agenda of sorts, things they're trying to find out about the person, what they need to know, whether it be religion, politics, morals, etc. But once you start to fall for someone and you've gone through your "check-list", things really start to fall into the altruistic category, at least for me anyway. Because when you feel confident in liking and then loving someone, you open up to them, and when that is reciprocated you instantly become more selfless and self sacrificing towards them. Similar to your family ( if you admire them greatly) you'll find yourself doing pretty much anything to make them happy because you love them and they love you in a respectful way.

I feel that I am easily altruistic with children, because at least with kids 13 and under which is the group I work with these days, they are still innocent. The bad behaviors I see I blame not on them but on having poor parents, and I just make a point of showing unconditional kindness since I don't know if they ever get that at home along with, when needed, reality checks.

I think I do have my own agenda, but that agenda often changes, and it's probably a mixture of my ego versus environment versus the ever-changing nature of news and current affairs and insights and opportunities that arise or present themselves 🎁😋😈

Altruism is hard to pin down. Every act that brings you a degree of pleasure is to some extent an ego based and not altruistic act. I think that the only altruistism we are capable of is compassion

I think you have to be somewhat altruistic or selfless to be a good person. caring for others even if it doesn't benefit you is an important quality to have especially if you want to be a good parent.
