I may have a new sister-in-law soon. My brother, who previously couldn't get a date to save his life, packed off to southeast Asia after the pandemic and apparently he now has a steady girlfriend in Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City. She's way out of his league, total model material, but it's clear that they love each other.

Keep in mind that my bro was pretty much an incel (not the angry/misogynistic Elliot Roger type), I always felt bad for him because he was so lonely often and now I'm honestly happy that he found someone, but it does have me pondering something.

Why are certain guys who couldn't even get run over here in the US/Europe/Canada deemed as attractive enough that he could go to some place like Vietnam or Thailand and bag a girl that looks as if she could be a mode? Are they seeing stuff in these men that we don't?

I mean, my brother was never ugly at all. He has the whole Nordic, blond hair and blue eyes look going on and he's lost a ton of weight over the last few years, so he's not obese anymore like he used to be, he just lacked self-esteem and needed to get out more often.

Especially the blond and blue or green-eyed type can get a massive bonus with some Asian women for being exotic. I noticed this with a Japanese woman a long time ago. Her family was rich so I could be sure she was not after money with me. She liked my singing, too.

For guys who can easily come off as awkward in their own country it can work out better abroad. The language barrier can work in their favor as some of the nuances of awkwardness are lost in translation.

And of course, Thai women are traditionally looking for a provider, but the country has way lower incomes. So a Westerner can compete much better there. Money plays a role, but it is not all.

Anyway, in love, as in war, a man has to use every advantage he can get and throw everything into the balance. It seems it worked for your brother.

I think its just the attraction to opposites going on in this instance. He was likely one of the very rare tall Nordic blonde types in Saigon and that's what initially attracted her to him.

I gather once she got to know him, she was still impressed with the type of guy he is (of good character) and that's what ultimately won her heart.

Sounds like a win-win to me, if they get along great!

Sounds like a loaded question. What do you want people to say? Asian women are self hating sluts who will screw anyone who isn't Asian? Or is it that she's just trying to get her green card? Instead of asking strangers over the internet why some hot Asian chick wants your "incel" of a brother, why not just be happy for him?

I'm just wondering why a woman in a place like Vietnam who was clearly desirable and well-educated would want anything to do with a self-admitted nerdy white guy who couldn't even get a second glance back home. I mean, is it cultural? are dating standards different in the east vs the west? I'm not hating on her, or my brother.

And believe me, I am glad they found each other. My brother is the happiest I've seen him in years and she clearly loves him back.

I am engaged to an Asian woman and have dated quite a few Asian women from different countries. If you want to date in the west you need game. Asian women want a nice guy. The nice guys that western women don't want. I had no problem getting a date here but I got tired of all the games. Ironically, the Asian women that white men consider beautiful aren't considered beautiful by Asian male standards.

And contrary to popular belief, many don't like it in the west. It's too expensive here and a lot are moving back to SE Asia. I agreed to move there when I retire otherwise I would be single again.

I know quite a few guys who have married East Asian women. Most recently I’ve known a few that actually moved to Philippines since Covid thanks to remote work being so prevalent. I think the appeal is their culture is very big on respect and they’re extremely family oriented. The cost of living there is fairly reasonable too.

There is no denying in culture and upbringing influencing the girls. It is quite self explanatory with the misandry in the first world countries running rampant and the easy love-getting in southeast Asia. Something HAS to be different between those 2 regions and if girls are truly growing up thinking for themselves, they wouldn't be part of the very common occurrences, that is misandry in the first world countries and love-ready in southeast Asia. Maybe - JUST MAYBE - the girls in southeast Asia are thinking for themselves. My argument being, that nature designed us to love each other, not tear down one another.

Girls are absolutely allowing themselves to be "dictated" by their upbringing and environment and cultural values to be influenced what type of girls and women they become. It is strongly self evident.

@Unit1 just pick a quality one with values, from good family. unfortunately I hear so many will sell themselves short, giving themselves away, and that may bring with it emotional baggage. choose well, build a solid foundation.

It's a different culture. A lot of those men in countries overseas are patriarchal. It's not like the USA where it is more egalitarian. When I went to an Eastern European country a lot of the men were alcoholics and they didn't respect their women at all.

I met women who liked me just because I treated women kindly. A lot of them don't expect a guy to treat them with respect. Whereas in the usa men are taught that women are equal to a man and can do what a man does etc.
