Coming across someone you knew a long time ago on Hinge?

I am not sure what answers I am going to get from this question, but here goes nothing:

I set up an account on Hinge. A few “compatible” people have come up. One that came up is a guy who was a classmate of mine from middle school. He also was friends with my brother (no falling out or anything, they just haven’t seen each other in a long time due to being busy in their lives). His answers on his profile were funny, and in the pictures I saw I thought he was really cute and had a great smile.

We both follow each other on Instagram, but the last time we saw each other face to face was when we were REALLY awkward middle schoolers. 😬 I changed schools, and we hadn’t seen each other since then. I’m unsure whether or not to initiate a conversation due to the fact so much time has passed and also because of him being friends with my brother.

I’m new to dating apps, also. Any advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I liked a video on his profile, and commented a question on it. I haven’t heard from him, and I can’t see his profile anymore. It makes me think he removed me or hasn’t responded yet. Not sure if he isn’t active on the app, if it just takes a long time for him to respond, or if he even “rejected” me altogether. 😔

It’s funny, I actually thought about doing that. From your perspective, as a guy, would you possibly respond to someone you hadn’t seen or spoken to in years if they messaged you on a dating app?

I might respond. Depends on who she is more than how long it's been.

Just responded to a video on his profile. Maybe he’ll respond, maybe he won’t. Not sure how long it takes for a guy to respond if he is interested?

If you’re interested and want a “safe” approach you could maybe just hit him up and say “lol apparently we’re a match”. If he doesn’t seem interested than you can just joke about it and basically catch up with how’s he’s doing in life, get nostalgic etc
