Everyone has their preferences... By the way, you want to ask her out primarily because of how she looks... but if you haven't built any attraction with her, then there is little reason for her to say yes when / if you do ask...

You don't need to, but since attraction for women is mostly emotional connection first, then looks / physical attraction second, it can increase success rates if a little rapport is built first. For us, it is looks first and emotional connection second hence my comment. There are always exceptions to the rule of course.
