It all depends what you want the attention for?
Is it because you want him to help you with homework, shopping or to help you out with something that you cannot do yourself?
If on the other hand it is because you have other motives than simple assistance or help, then you will have to get out of your comfort zone.
Since you placed your question under the "Dating" topic, I do presume that your final aim is not innocent and platonic.
I would suggest that you do your homework and find out what the interests of that target person are and inform yourself about what he likes/dislikes. Next is simply to try to get his attention by initiating a conversation about those topics. The rest should fall into place all by itself if the target person realizes that you share common interests.
