Broken body. In the last 5 years I was medically mismanaged in England, leading to moving back to South Africa on 1st March 2020. Most of the next 9 months in hospital, including having a toe amputated on my 48th birthday, having to be admitted to another hospital for IV antibiotics - where I contracted the original form of Covid from another patient, which required the health of antibiotics for the infection in my foot so Covid could be treated. That triggered a cytokine storm where your own immune system not only attacks infected cells, but also every cell that could become infected. Most of the Covid deaths worldwide were caused by this problem. Technically it's a direct result of the infection because once there's no live virus in your body, it stops.
As if that's not enough, I had a 3 month coma with delirious hallucinations. Then total organ failure of my kidneys and full cardiac and respiratory arrest. Four hours CPR and stabilisation - a unit record for the survival of the patient - five broken ribs and the need to literally tie me to the bed after I punched a nurse in the face as a result of the hallucination.
I woke up two weeks after the resuscitation. Two weeks later I went to physical rehab. Two weeks after that I was back in ICU because the infection in my foot was back and literally the only option for survival was amputation - under LOCAL anaesthetic because a full anaesthetic would kill me, as would the antibiotics I'd had previously.
Two weeks after the amputation I was back in rehab, learning to use a wheelchair, then crutches and by mid-December a prosthetic leg. Unfortunately I had a reaction to the material used to hold the leg on and it was March 2021 before the resulting infection had recovered enough to try again.
In April 2021 I was finally walking and able to go swimming. Unfortunately, I stepped on broken glass in the pool resulting in another year of bed rest trying to save my LEFT foot. The third amputation was the big toe of my left foot in June 2022.
In December 2022 my wife attempted suicide and spent New Year in intensive care.
By the end of October 2023 I'd had to close my business and my wife had closed hers due to health issues.
Last month - July 2024 - I had an emergency admission for FOUR life threatening conditions: Covid (again), a Deep Vein Thrombosis in the thigh of what's left of my right leg completely blocking the biggest vein in my thigh - and dislodgement would go to my heart or lung and kill me in moments - acute kidney failure, and acute liver failure.
My life is not what I expected.
But...
I have a beautiful son who turns six next week.
A wife who for some inexplicable reason hasn't left me in almost 21 years of marriage, 23 of relationship.
A family who have given nothing but support; physically, emotionally, spiritually and on occasion financially.
Most of all, I have a Faith in Jesus that is unshakeable. I've been more Blessed in the last five years that in the previous 47 combined - and He Blessed me a LOT before 2019.
Not what I expected but I'm blessed in ways I never dreamed possible.
Life is good.12 Reply- 1 y
Your story brought tears to my eyes and admiration and a deep respect to my heart!
You’re such a fighter! You’ve faced death multiple times and you’ve beaten it!
I feel proud to know you! I feel proud to have had your support when I had my leg broken, it felt so much for me to hear your supportive words at that time!
I am sorry that your life has been filled with so many hardships these past few years, and I am happy that after all this time, you’re finding the strength in yourself and many reasons to smile!
When I broke my leg, I was all alone and for three months, I was dancing on one leg! If you ask me now, life was still so beautiful! I remember my mom telling me to stop whining, because at least I didn’t break my neck… That’s true… You’re alive, I’m alive, We are alive and sometimes that’s enough to be happy.
Your wife hasn’t left you, because you are a wonderful man! And on top of that, picked a right and a wonderful woman for you too! Hope she’s doing better these days.
It was hard for you both.
Hope and believe that things will get easier and you’ll get to enjoy the better sides of life after all this pain.
Also, my grandpa passed away from Covid, his heart stopped on my birthday… I was praying to God that day to give half of my hear/ health to my grandpa as a birthday present from God to me and save my grandpa… He passed away 4 days later… At least he gave me one more hopeful birthday…. I so wish he was alive, I am happy you made it! You’re a survivor! Millions of others - couldn’t…

3.2K opinions shared on Dating topic. Thank you for asking... For the last past couple years I have been committed to taking care of somebody that has Alzheimer's dementia
It was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do in my life I mean one of the most hardest things I've had to do in my life and the patience I've had to have the most difficult thing in my life
. But now all this difficulties are gone and life is getting our starting to come alive again because I have to regrow reinvent myself and find myself because when you take care of somebody you lose a lot of things in life and that's especially yourself... It's now been 3 weeks 3 and 1/2 weeks since she has passed.
And everything that I thought was so difficult and so hard was just a learning experience it was life-changing and a better person for going through it.
I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy I don't know if I had to do it again I would if I would I think I would. But now taking care of all the things that I have to take care of after the fact I'm almost there getting them all done I'm starting to smile again starting to be happy even though I was it's just a different type of happiness but today the world is beautiful and that seen your question five or six times and I wanted to answer it but didn't and I just saw it again and my life is going good and I appreciate you asking thank you I hope yours is doing the same and I hope you can smile today24 Reply- 1 y
Thank you for sharing this with me…
My mom has been taking care of my grandma with dementia for 3 years, I know and can imagine what’s it like for you…
I am sorry that you had to go through it… I am also sorry my mom has to go through it…
I am happy that you’ve found the reason to smile again! And that you’re looking for the ways to find yourself and create yourself again! You’ve got this! I believe in you! You should be proud of yourself, you’re an amazing person and judging by the difficulties you’ve been through, I am sure there’s nothing you can achieve or overcome!
Best of luck to you, wishing you the same I’d wish to my mom. - 1 y
Thank you you're very beautiful person with a very beautiful heart..
OMG yes. I really needed to hear that what I have been through I can make it through anything now I've always known that but this is just a reminder because this was the most difficult the hardest thing imaginable to do.. . If your mom is your grandmother's only caretaker you need to go and give her a break once in awhile somebody does I don't care what she says it is difficult it is stressful and she needs a break she will appreciate it so much she needs to be by herself to think to go shopping to walk to run to scream I thank you for all your beautiful words I really do you're beautiful person but please help your mother people looking from the outside in do not understand how stressful how crazy it gets thank you very much and please help your mom she really needs it whether she says yes or no she needs to believe me - 1 y
I am in another country unfortunately… Her sisters work and refuse to take part in taking care of her.
- 1 y
That makes it even harder on your mom. I have a sister that mom use to live with. That. Could have helped. But never did until the very last two weeks when she actually came over and at the perfect moments because I said come on you're going to help me and I made her do everything just so she seen what I had to go through each and every day three and four times a day sometimes. She could not believe what I went through. And then I had to call the ambulance one time and that's when I started getting hospice care after that that helped out tremendously. ... Because they can send a nurse to come in give her a sponge bath help change her.. . They tell your mom if she does start getting that type of care they're only there for one reason one reason only and that's to make her end of her life comfortable is what they call it. After the second week of hospice care one of the main nurses asked me how long it's been since I had my last break and I told her I never had a break nobody's helped me I've done it all myself... She asked me if I wanted to break for a week that they would take her for one week so I can take care of things I had to take care of and I said yes someone condition you do not give her morphine not unless she absolutely needs it because that's what they do they come in they give them a shot of morphine so or under the... Tongue... I told the nurse yes if you guys will take her but no morphine I will take a break yes I need. . When they brought her back she was so high I'm worthy and I could not believe it she never came out of that they had been given her 0.5 mg every 3 hours that means she didn't have any fluid for 7 days I mean she didn't have any food for 7 days and that pissed me off she only lasted another 7 days because. I feel that she was so messed up for the morphine I could give her fluids and even chicken soup broth but that was it I think that pissed me off
Anonymous(25-29)1 yDefinitely could be better, but also could be worse.😆
Chronic Scoliosis, Migraines, Vaginismus, Pelvic Pain, Dysmenorrhea, IBS-M turns into daily. Daily: 🤢, 🤮, migraine, light sensitivity, shortness of breath, 🥵/🥶, dizziness, fatigue, insomnia, lower back aches, low energy, (once or twice a month blacking out), ❤️🔥, loss of appetite and abdominal pain: sharp like a🔪, twisted like juicing a🍋, gutted like a hungry fisherman🐟, throbbing like a🔨, achy, dull, crampy, burning🔥, random/sudden GI/🚽, alternating/unpredictable💩, bloating.
Physically debilitating and mentally draining.
The fun of relationship drama from 2 guys (TY♂️🤣), trying to move, budgeting, hoping insurance covers and changing insurance and dentist/doctor/etc., all the good people in life disappearing on ya, no car, HIPPA broken, invasion of privacy a. k. a. device hacked, credit card fraud (someone tried to spend $600+), switching phones 3 times in a week cause taking it out of the case snapped it in half and didn't transfer all data soo took 2 days to go in and redo photo albums, music playlist, phone contacts, and notes, 3 family deaths in the last year and 1 currently in and out of hospital, annoying roommates, etc.

Anonymous(25-29)1 yCould be better. Working 3 jobs and still unable to keep up with bills, groceries, gas, rent, etc… Hoping the first book in a series I’m getting published helps me rake in enough money to survive. Hopefully Trump returns to the White House and fixes the economy and lowers rent so I can focus on my life instead of surviving.

1 yQuite good.
My wife and I are at a lovely beach in Asia, and unfortunately, we have to leave soon. Very low stress. Have extra energy to give back and not sure where to put it. Feel a little guilty at times, that life is so good. Hope others are doing well as well.
Plenty of Europeans enjoying vacations, people married having kids, etc. Life is happening.
