What does it mean when a man says he is addicted to you?

Question

My ex told me that before we broke up, he said “I am addicted to you. I wouldn’t wait for any woman for 2 years but you. You do something to me that is more than love. I lose myself in you, it scares me. I am addicted.”
And now the man I am into told me he thinks he’d be addicted to me. What makes guys think they are addicted to certain women? Do I do anything wrong? I am not toxic… I want love not an addiction. I am just nice, kind, loving and attentive with a slight dosage of sensuality.

Hmm... It seems to be the "phrase du jour" for trying to make a woman believe you're vulnerable but devoted. I think it's a tactic to convince a woman that he's SO into you it's beyond words. It's a ploy to get a woman thinking "oh, he's going to be loyal to me and treat me like a queen because I'm his drug, and he needs me". Not in reality. In reality, the vast majority of men who would say that would easily switch that "addiction" to the next sweet taste that came along, if you dumped him.

Addiction is a serious matter, even to something seemingly trivial like coffee or tea, or as deadly as heroin, fentanyl, meth, alcohol, etc. Your first hint is him saying " It's more than love". If he understood what love was, or what REAL addiction was, he'd never say that. My strong advice is to keep your distance from these kinds of guys.

Yea you are best to run away , when someone says those words , they are basically depending on you to bring them happiness because they don’t know how to be happy with themselves, so you have every right to feel the way that you do , Love doesn’t come from addiction , love comes from choosing someone the same way they want you to choose them. I dated girls’ that told me they were addicted to me and at first I took it as a compliment but then I realized they were clearly addicted to me and wouldn’t leave my side , they got completely obsessed with me to the point I couldn’t do anything without them breathing down my neck , so do yourself a favor and run , find yourself a guy that just wants to love you the same way you love him

To make you feel and think he is really into you and would be hard for him to move on from you if you guys break up. It might like he tried to makes you can't stop thinking about him. because in your mind he admires you so much, like trying to bind you psychologically.

Saying I'm addicted to you is like saying you're my drug, I need you, without you I go through withdrawal and it physically hurts me, you're not being compared to a bad thing, being in love and not being around those you love does hurt so it's a logical comparison, but you're reading into it too much, it has nothing to do with being toxic, you're looking at it from a weird non poetic view you're looking at it like he's calling you a literal drug, that's not what's being conveyed, look at it from a different view.

It means that he secretly hates everything about you & is waiting until your guard is down to make his move. Like when you're eating ice-cream while watching your favorite childhood movie or something, he'll say he has to use the restroom but he'll really be in the adjacent room taking pictures of your pet doggo so that he can advertise him/her on facebook markeplace for a few bucks to pay for his gas ride out of there the next day.

It might be worth asking him directly. It would make for good conversation and getting to know him better. you have to understand, men aren't really valued much in modern society, so being treated as actual humans is kind of shocking. It floods our brains with chemicals, dopeamine, oxytocin, seratonin etc. It's definitely possible to be addicted to those brain chemicals.

To guys on here: don’t be addicted to women they will just bring you stress, headache, financial hardship, divorce or breakup to personally try to destroy your will, women and girls aren’t worth dating or marrying today, they seem all the same in my opinion, no thank you.
