If you know by minute 12, 15 to 20 minutes. are quite enough to call it quits.

Set your phone timer to that amount of time and have an appointment to head to, or have someone call you at a particular time, thank the person for their time, but you don't think you're a good match and go on your way.

HOWEVER, snap judgments might not be the best way to go. Sometimes a person is too nervous to be impressive, or it's an off day for them, or they're worried about something else... There could be a host of issues that are foiling their best foot forward show at that coffee date..

I might do a second coffee date with the person to make sure it didn't work... 40 minutes of your time should confirm or deny a first impression. 12 minutes might not be enough. I'd can it for THAT DAY. But try a second time a few days or a week later. If everything happens the same, then bow out for good.

I mean kindness is free, I usually stay the entire time, assuming the guy is reasonable and normal, etc, even if I know we're not going to have a second date. I'm talking like an hour or so at most. You gotta balance being cordial with not letting them get to much hope. I know its cliche but usually being as honest as possible is the best course of action I find.

It depends. If the date was based on a photo, and it was a ten-year-old photo, or if he had used a filter for the photo, I would leave as soon as I saw him.

Otherwise, I would finish the coffee and leave after chatting for 20 to 30 minutes.
