What do you think about the Tea app?

There's a controversial app called Tea Dating Advice where only women can participate and discuss (uploading pictures with names) men in their area. Talk about their experiences with them, add red or green flags, and even make voting polls on whether they should date a man or not based on the feedback other women provided about him. All under the guise of protecting women from unknown dangers, cheaters, abusive relationships etc.

It has become quite popular lately.

What do you think about it? Do you find it hypocritical? An invasion of privacy? Or do you think it serves a good purpose?

Personally, I'm surprised that this is even legal.

May be legal but it doesn't sound ethical. It's one thing to slag off a guy to your friends, another thing to completely ruin his chances of ever dating again. I wouldn't be surprised if women get sued.

It sounds like a good thing. And I don’t see any problem with it being legal. Guys are free to do the same thing.

I can see why it's controversial, because the guy may not know about their photos being used on there and then does it become and issue of confidentiality?

How does the app keep guys from creating fake accounts?

I think it asks users for ID verification, at least that's what I heard

While I’d like to imagine the app serves a positive purpose by alerting others to toxic guys like child traffickers in their community, I wonder how many girls feel a sense of competition and create false gossip about a guy to throw others off of him?

Yeah that's one of the factors that people who are concerned about it bring up. A guy asked a lawyer about suing for defamation and the lawyer told him that unless he can prove it's false, they don't have much of a case.

Gossip and reputation destruction are traditional female avenues for aggression so that guy likely has no case. Best to just live his best life and trust those who love him will not participate in the negativity.

If it continues to be popular would be curious to see stats on the quantity of green flag guys posted to the app vs the quantity of red flag guys. If I use the experience I have learned from gag my guess is more girls will vent about bad experiences than post about good ones on that app. You think so?

I saw like one video on TikTok (which is where news of the app blew up) of a girl scrolling through it and from what I could tell there seemed to be more red flags than green

I mean, yeah I think so. Everyone is the victim in their own story and obviously they won't say any negative things about themselves, so some of this information is probably very one sided
