Why is it important to him that I “choose” him?

So I started talking to this guy recently I met on a dating app and we gel really well together, but I’ve noticed that he always asks me to “choose him”. When we were on the dating app, I asked him to talk elsewhere so that I could delete the app because I was interested in him. He started saying thank you for choosing him. That out of the other guys I was the one I gave my number too. Now that we’ve spent more time together he always asks me to choose him, I am assuming to be my boyfriend. My question is, is he really insecure or is this some kind of control manipulation tactic, where I pick him and he wants me to choose him and only him above everyone else? (family and friends) I ask this because I have been in a situation to that and was not good at recognizing it the first time, so I want to make sure this isn’t the same thing. I do like this guy and would happily date him but before I jump in, I want to be safe rather than sorry. Thanks in advance.

I think he just has a weird way of putting it. Don't overthink something like this. If it's a problem similar to before it will show up soon enough. You can't tell from this.

To me, that sounds like an insecurity thing. He wants to be reassured that you want to be with him or have chosen him.
