You can ask me, a child of two therapists and a brother who decided to go into psychology as well.
I rejected the idea that I should go for a degree. It is an utterly horrible to go for a degree "just because" especially a degree like psychology.
People most often join because they feel as though they have something wrong with themselves... fact is they will never figure it out getting more and more frustrated as time goes on until ultimately they are either stripped of their license to practice due to medical malpractice. They will also most often times be implosive with their emotions because they never found a proper way to vent all the bent up thoughts and feelings they take in during their sessions.
If you are joining to help people then i believe in you, but from your post it seems as though you are testing around. If you do join a psychology class there will be two types of people there... ones who will be there to serve others... and the others that will ultimately be there only for themselves.
I chose to become a firefighter instead, i can still help others but without the mental BS.
Good luck.

Yeah definitely it is respected degree and each case is different. We can learn from every case. It requires lot of reading and help to develop human relationships and know more about the behaviour of people.
It is my favourite subject though I am student of different field.
Psychology is definitely a growing field, but it is commonly viewed as the degree everyone gets when they don't know what to do in life. Psychology is an extremely popular degree because it lures in people with two qualities:
1.) Unathletic
2.) Wants to help people
For those who don't want to physically fight crime to help the world or have an interest in scientific or social affairs, they connect to psychology rather quickly.
sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. i know many psychiatrists get lots of hate because they only wanna "drug patients" when that's what they're specialized in compared to psychologists which specialize in behavioural therapy for treatment. 2 of my older cousins are these doctors and my one cousin gets more hate for being a psychiatrist than the other does for being a psychologist
It is in my country, for those who make it through to a profession using it. A good percentage get the degree then end up working in admin instead of utilising their skill, which just makes it look like a filler degree (like art of journalism).
And it's paid well here, a standard psychologist consultation is between $140-$200 an hour
In my country it's mocked and people don't appreciate than other people are able to read them or tell them what to do.

I don't really respect it as a difficult field of study. It seems very easy and I've heard undergrad students say that it's a joke. I guess I could just biased being an engineering major though. I realize that I chose the hardest undergraduate degree possible lol
I would say it´s underrated. Many don´t even know the importance of a psychologist and the fact that been a psychologist is not synonym to be an office all day, attending "crazy peope", is a wide field and those psychologist who do attend people in the comfort of an office are clinical psychologist.
Not as respected as the hard sciences but that's due to the type of students that take it up. Generally those that are unsure of what to study. If you go to graduate school you can really have a great career ahead of you
32 for an hour? That's it?
Where I live, that's like the copay.
Therapists with psychology backgrounds make $150 here fairly easily for one hour sessionsI like it and wouldn't mind minoring in it but some people say it doesn't pay much I don't know, I still like it tho it really interests me
It sure is because you are helping others and helping others is always respected. However, the psychology field may be unemployable.
No not respected at all. It's an illegitimate science. Just look at the salaries offered in the profession.
depends. do you wish to research and study about how the brain works or listen to someone's problems while giving shitty advice?
I think there is still quite a bit of stigma attached to psychology.
Yes but there's a lot of narcissistic people going in those program. Those program required a individual that has A LOT of empathy. Which is why the dropout of those program are high as fuck.
It sure is. Just look at all the weirdos on GAG that one day will walk in your office.😎
yes but don't start using it on bf/gf and or friends
Graduate yes.
Undergraduate no unless graduate track. From what I have seen it is mostly BS and the classes are very easy.
Hell yeah. It's so important to help people!
I think so, science is always respected.
... so why do you need to ask then?
It's more respected than others, at least
It is.
