How would I set up this math equation?

If there's 83 million people in Iran, and 36,000 annually are converting to Christianity, how long will it take Iran to become Christian?

How would I set that problem up, without having to keep adding 36,000 until I hit 83 million. And the number of times I have to add it, is the number of years it will take for Iran to become Christian.

There has to be a simpler way to this, because that's gonna take forever.

I did it the hard way, and it is indeed 2305 but that seems impossible. That's why I thought I set the problem up wrong to begin with.

Considering the overly simplified way the question is presented my guess is really they are just trying to push the information that people are being converted to Christianity in Iran. So you would just take half the population and divide it by the rate. Not really any wrong answers as i doubt whoever authored the question cares or knows much about how math works.

You forget a important factor, birthrate in each faction. You might not make a dent in the numbers depending on those alone. You also forget that all conversations is usually S curves and not linear. So your math equation is pointless. And they also tend shift, atheism is going to take ground in most countries eventually. So I wouldn't worry about which side of those become out on top. They will become mythologies like the norse and the greek and the roman gods.

I'm not fucking around with any S curves. Plus this also isn't taking into account how many Christians there already were, nor is it taking into account the high likelihood that the conversion rate will gradually increase. So you are right that the equation is pretty much pointless, but I wanted to get a general idea.

That's what S curves are a increase in the beginning then a decrease towards the end. Not that I think that's what will happen in iran. Real life is far messier than that.

Yeah all these kind of numbers are always guesses, independent if it's done by researches or amateurs. It's not like you can really trust statistics but they are usually slightly better than just pulling number from thin air. So the more facts you got the better guess you can do.

That's what I did originally and ended up with 2305. But surely that number can't be the number of years. That seems WAY too long.
