One of my male coworkers is always following up with me during the day asking things like “all good?” And “brb” any time he goes away. He lectures me about things and scolds me for things I did wrong and says things like “well I’m leaving in 2 weeks so if you need anything before then please tell me.” Thing is, he’s not very reliable and leaves periodically through the day. He also can take a long time to answer some messages. He has told me the wrong answer to things multiple times and it got me in trouble. He rushes me to do things. One other coworker told me he seemed controlling when he was giving team updates and saying how my progress was going. my manager told me today she doesn’t want me using him as a mentor and suggested I ask other people for help. Also once my power disconnected and so I couldn’t work for like 30 minutes and he scolded me and goes “I don’t mean to get pissy but..”
How can I handle this politely? I’m not sure how to kindly tell him to step off.
