This website: https://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/payentitlements/Pay-Tables/ is the official site for the Department of Defense. Pay is based on rank and time in service and then there are various allowances to which different service members are entitled. It's actually fairly complex, matched in complexity only by GaG's point system and the U. S. tax code. Seriously, though, if you have questions, DM me. I used to work fairly closely with the military pay system.
Basically, just the average pay ranges from grunts to maybe corporals.
Use the lines for E1 to E4 and you'll get a sense. It's not huge. Remember that they'll get a housing allowance and what's called a subsistence allowance.
$24,000 to $34,000 a year isn't much? It's probably more than I ever made!!
Probably true and, yes, more than I made as an E1 in 1994. But, using the $34,000 number works out to $17.71 per hour based on a 40 hour work week. That's less than a person could earn at Amazon, Target, school bus drivers and a host of other places. That should embarrass us that we pay that little to the folks who will likely be on the front line.
My last job, a few years ago, I only made $11 something an hour and it was the first time I'd ever been paid more than $8.50 an hour! Actually, that was my 2nd to last job.. My last job, 3 years ago, was $6 an hour as a janitor for the Red Cross!
Don't know, I was branded 4F and couldn't enlist
Tits got in the way?
No a childhood illness. Put the brakes on me from being in the service
Depends on ur rank and length of service
As I said above, just average pay from enlistment to maybe corporal.
