Human has 46 chromosomes, but chimpanzees have 48 chromosomes. did the "common ancestor" have 48? or 46? or 47? or?

any guesses? or suggestions?

First suggestion: drop the Creationist crap. This matter was resolved in 1987: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF00057436
Two proto-chimp chromosomes joined at the telomeres, which is why we have twenty three pairs, and the Neanderthals did too, and every other ape has twenty four.
resolved? haha, even your source wrote "possible" not observed when we do observe parents with 48 chromosomes chimps have kids 48 but you have blind faith that "a pair in two children" fused 5 million years ago, (who found each other to mate, might as well say god fashioned two) unless you were there to see the exception? against observation in lab.
science exited its limits when it pretended to speculate about past without observing as above and equaly predicted future global waming by 2010. lost any credibility but "the science is settled" that 48 produces 48.
we reject a god we can't see but believe chromosomes fused that we also didn't see. r. o. f. l.
science should stop speculation about past, as above , and about future like predictions "Thirty Years On, How Well Do Global Warming Predictions Stand Up?
James Hansen issued dire warnings in the summer of 1988. Today earth is only modestly warmer."
In 2005, a peer-reviewed scientific journal published results of several tests. Chromosome 2, which is unique to the human lineage of evolution, emerged as a result of the head-to-head fusion of two ancestral chromosomes that remain separate in other primates.
that they ATTACHED interfering.

Recently, I have come to the conclusion that evolution is so mathematically improbable that it fails to explain the origin of life or the origin of species. And thus this question is nonsensical for me
Just that if you have less than that you'll get downs or other mental disabilities or physical disabilities.
actually the result of that at "that same source" was "sterile" but somehow it happened twice not "sterile" and found each other to mate.
"known to be harmful in humans, leading to complete or partial sterility" but these parented enough pairs to make many parents. absurd faith.
I don't know but I want say 47
that seems most logical to explain the facts.
