How much is enough for you to retire?

Obviously the "ideal amount" is very individual as no one's retirement is the same. What's your goal? Do you think you'll hit it?

I'd say 300 million. Then I can start up charitable foundations that support all the causes dear to me. Give it all away.

Once you've taken care of your base needs, everything else is gravy. And if you're got a lot of gravy, got to spread it around nad make the world a better place.

Possibly a million or better. Over the past 20 years, I've gone through possibly $280,000 and I'm still nearly broke. Between bills, taxes, necessities, groceries and other stuff, what little I've been able to save the past 2 decades or so hasn't lasted very long. So, if a quarter of a million only lasts me about 20 years, a full mil oughta last me another 80. And, if I have that kind of dosh, I'm doing improvements on the house! Some of which are badly needed!

The richest people I know have no plans to stop just because they can because it would get boring to be so unproductive long term

I would need £600k for clearing mortgage/loans and buying an investment property.
Then £2m. At a conservative 3% interest that would be £60k a year, can make that work.
Would like a nest egg in bank, so let's round it up to £3m in total.

I'd say around 1.2 million. At a very reachable compounding return of 6% that'd be 72k a yr. They actually did a study on how much money you need to be happy. and the study concluded that happiness on the avg. peaked at 75k a year.

In today's world, you will need at least 1 million US$ in assets in order to reasonably retire. I think I'll make that, maybe a little more.
