Why can't I learn English?

Question

I go to a language course to learn English. There are grammar and speaking lessons. The teachers in the speaking lessons are foreign and I can't speak because I don't understand the pronunciation of the words. I also have difficulty understanding the rules in grammar lessons. I always use a translation application. I even wrote this article from the translation. How can I learn English?

Well, as an ESL teacher, I wouldn't allow my students to use translation applications because, if they aren't doing the work, they aren't going to learn anything. You probably just haven't found a kind of class that works for you yet. Generally, English classes will teach you grammar really well. However, speaking the language is another issue. About 80% of English is phonetic. The rest you just have to memorize. But for functional English it isn't really so bad. There are actually functional English courses, so you might want to look for one of those. Also, remember, for any foreign language, you success is directly proportional to the amount of effort you really put in. Good luck!

The best way is to start by texting a native speaker then when you become more familiar and comfortable maybe you can start short phone calls. So basic and normal conversation, also listening to a lot of English music watching YouTube videos in English and using sites in English like this site.

How much have you learned? Do you know the Latin alphabet?

How much grammar do you know? Learn the basics of grammar and sentence structure. Then put all your effort into vocabulary. You do not need to know advanced grammar. You can learn that later when you become much better at English.

Get a children's book with simple sentences. Read it slowly. Write down any words that you don't know. Translate those words then read the book again.

Your pronunciation does not have to be perfect. Just try to get it close.

Some people (usually older people as opposed to infants) are not good at learning languages, that probably includes you. Moreover, English has many rules difficult to understand and often conflicting with numerous exceptions.
