For what it's worth, I've noticed that English speakers need to shorten the vowels to reach a french (from FR, not CA) accent. Because it's the opposite for me, to reach an English accent, I need to stretch the vowels. Compared to English, French pronunciation is very cut/chopped, illustrated by the difficulties I have to separate Pitch from Peach. Imagine that, from a french perspective, the EA sound from peach feels unnaturally stretched, while the E sound from pitch feels normal
