If someone told you your job wasn’t really a job because it’s “easy”, would you take offense?

My mom worked in a furniture factory and a nursing home. She currently doesn’t work and is waiting on her disability hearing. However I work as a school custodian, and I DoorDash on the weekends. My mom seems to think my custodian job isn’t a real job because it’s so “easy” and we sit a lot. Actually we have tasks to do each morning, and it’s end of the school year so we are preparing for graduation. Who is to say if a persons job is really a job?

I've been told that about being a stay at home mom. It's always funny to me because the people who say that probably wouldn't last 5 mintues if they had to do what I do everyday. It's most likely coming from a place of ignorance and not knowing how hard the job really is. Being a custodian is 100% a real job and so is a doordasher. If she had to do those jobs I bet she couldn't handle them.

I actually have been told that when I was working as a librarian at my old job. They think librarians don't do anything besides check in and out books but it's so much more that goes into it than that. So I definitely would take offense. A job is a job no matter what it is.

Being a custodian takes a lot of hard work. It can be physically demanding. It's for sure a job.

Nope what I do is easy and it isn't really a job. But I would say the work I did for the last 30 years was not easy. So I'm not going to feel bad about it. Let some younger guy break his back now. If I had to I would. But financially I don't have to anymore.

But I agree with @msc545 in your case. I would invite her to give your job a try if she think it's so easy.

Yeah. I've got to pay attention to every little thing because a lot of it involves payroll related tasks, and there's a deadline to meet every month. I also have to close down job tickets for street cleaning crews, and road maintenance crews.
