Well, I have to get my bio degree first. Then I have a masters which is 2-3 years.

There is a new program that has an emphasis on female health that has become a hot ticket to a good job where I live.

Why did you choose PA instead of an MD or nursing?

PA is nearly a doctor. I can see patients for routine things without a doctor. I also don’t have to carry the insane insurance since I will only see patients for routine things like physicals, four, etc.

I’m not a PA, but I’ve coached several through their training and careers. In the U. S., the typical path is:

- Bachelor’s degree with strong science background
- Health-care experience (EMT, CNA, MA, scribe, etc.)
- Accredited PA program (usually 2–3 years, master’s level)
- Didactic year: anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, clinical medicine, etc.
- Clinical year: rotations in family med, internal med, surgery, EM, pediatrics, psych, OB/GYN
- National certifying exam (PANCE)
- State licensure and ongoing CME to maintain certification.
