Do you think Chris Hansen is a hero for doing the To Catch a Predator stings?

This is going to be an unpopular opinion but no, not only do I not think he was a hero I think the whole thing was part of a serious social ill.

People who are attracted to minors (which, by the way, are not all pedophiles. People use that term too loosely when it actually applies to very few of them) have a very hard time in our society right now if they actually want to seek help with not acting on those urges, largely because of how society stigmatized them. Psychologists who try to even do studies on how to help them often get ostracized and harassed, and struggle to find funding cause investors don't want to be seen as "pedophile sympathizers."

Hell, people quite frequently advocate for imprisonmenr, mutilation (castration), or even execution of anyone who even has the thoughts - something we would never do for mere thoughts of commiting any other crime.

The stigma forces these people to not get the help they need, which in turn is only going to make them more likely to act on them, and this show was a perfect example of how we breed that stigma. I see the value of sting operations run by police to catch dangerous people, but turning it into entertainment just makes the problem worse.

He exposed and humiliated predators, nothing villainous about that. So what if it was entrapment? Those sick bastards don't deserve that bullshit loophole.

I liked the stings. I felt it let predators have a dose of reality that people are watching for them and they need to keep their hands off kids.

On one hand, people who want to fuck kids are going to jail, on the other, that show was active entrapment. I don't know man, it just seems like police work as entertainment is in poor taste. I don't like COPS, that stupid ass Steven Seagal show, & I don't really like seeing this show where we parade around gross people who are about to get raped in prison.

Opportunistic predator himself.
Ever research the arrest and convictions rates from his show? If not, do that. If you're not convinced that he's more about ratings than about serving or protecting the public by the time you're done, you're a damn fool.
