Janis Joplins puffy shirt, messy hair, free spirit, feathery, hippy image and shoulder rolling stage presence has had an immense impact on most female songwriters and pop icons since she was alive.

From Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush, Florence, Jodie Mitchell, Bjork, Carole King. It is actually difficult to find a female pop star that does NOT resemble Janis Joplin. So no. This lady is no more like Janis than most people to come after Janis.

Janis Joplin popularised the fundamental image of a woman pop star.

Considering JONI Mitchell and Carole King are both older than Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks is not much younger, I think all you can really say is that Janis Joplin was a product of her times. We all were. She wasn't that much of a singing icon since no one else really sang like her. What she was was an icon for future skankdom. It wasn't until Amy Skankhouse... uh, Winehouse, that Janis Joplin's style was a substantial influence. As for "shoulder rolling", you have forgotten other female singers famous for that like Tina Turner who was older than all of them.

But Joplin's vocals are hard to mimic, and probably wouldn't be favored in today's genres.

Janis Joplin's voice is raspy wgere as Maggie's is not. Maggie looks a tiny bit like Janis Joplin but over all I would not comepsre those two.

i literally just listened to her and she sounds like half the pop singers out there right now, vocally. she's got a good voice, but stylistically, she's about as generic as it gets. not exactly her fault...
