I do like Usui but I don't think he's the best, I actually have some serious problems with this character. He seems to have no backstory and he's just cool, popular with girls and good at everything for the sake of it. It doesn't even show properly when he started liking Misaki and why, because without that explanation it seems like he was only attracted to the fact that she works in a cosplay maid cafe, also if that's where he spends his whole day then how does he even study and get good grades? He is also a sick perv: stalking Misaki everywhere she goes, being very possessive, harassing Misaki multiple times, wanting her to be his personal maid, and even admitting that he likes to tease her to see her various reactions. To counter that, he indeed seems to be very caring for her and truly never lets her get even a scratch, he even injured himself to protect her from any harm. I think that's where people can evaluate whether his good sides overweight the bad sides.
I'm not done reading the whole manga yet, but if my thoughts on Usui change after reading it, I'll update this. But for now, seems like if a man in real life did what he does, he could easily end up in prison or get a restraining order.

I finished the manga. I do like Usui now more than before. His backstory is interesting.
