What is the most beautiful film in your opinion?

Dr. Zhivago is very good. An excellent example of how director David Lean used cinematography to create lush epic films.

I've always been blown away at several establishing shots:

1. First is the funeral procession at the very beginning of the movie with the mountains in the background.

2. The shot of the train during the bleak Siberian winter. You can see that here beginning at the 2:24 mark and lasting about 13 seconds.

3. Varykino - No, not the Varykino on Naboo in the Star Wars movies but the family estate.

If you want to understand what an "epic movie" really is, this is it. David Lean specialized in them.
"Dr, Zhivago" was David Lean's 1964 epic, but he had two earlier hugely successful epic films a few years before:

1. "The Bridge of the River Kwai", David Lean's 1957 epic also starring Alex Guinness (who was Obi-Wan Kenobi) and who was Yevgrev, Yuri Zhivago's brother who is prominent in that final scene in "Dr. Zhivago". The novel that the movie is based on was written by Pierre Boulle who also wrote the novel "Planet of the Apes" which was the original basis for that 1968 film albeit Rod Serling of "The Twilight Zone" wrote that film and deviated from the novel significantly.

2. "Lawrence of Arabia", David Lean's 1961 film considered by many to be among the greatest films ever made. Omar Sharif, who starred as Yuri Zhivago in "Dr. Zhivago", was also prominent in this movie. And, again, Alec Guinness was important in this film as "Prince Faisal".

Before he died, David Lean made one more epic film called "A Passage to India", but I cannot comment because I have never seen it. Alec Guinness was in that too...

I just loved the setting and the fact it was exactly how I imagined the book and just thought it was a beautiful film

Definitely a great movie! And, it is rather beautiful... Ending is fantastic.
