What newly released video games did you buy this year?
c.tenor.com/.../open-arms-emoji-victorious.gif
I have an insane backlog of games on Steam. Plus my interest in gaming has gone way down. So, I haven't bought a new game in a long time. I typically buy a game after it's been out a few years and I can get it with all DLC for $10-$15.
Even then. I've got at least a hundred games on Steam I haven't played yet. Not that it means much. Given my general malaise about gaming now. Most games I'll try for thirty minutes to an hour before labeling it as "sucks" and hide it forever from my library.
Mostly all I want now. Are games which may be heavily modded. Turning it into a game customized to my taste. I wish every game allowed the same level of modding as Skyrim. I'll spend more hours modding a game than actually playing it. Definitely don't want any with online play. As that kills your ability to mod. Due to the anti-cheating stuff.
Im not into online play either way
I don't think I ever even tried it. I like story driven games or long drawn out strategies. Neither of which really works well with online. Plus, I don't want to listen to a bunch of kids swearing and talking smack.
Omg yes!! I feel the exact same way about all of that
Awesome
Well then, if you like strategies. Try the Total War games. Don't bother with the newer ones. They sort of ruined the series. Rome: Total War and Medieval II: Total War are the pinnacle of the series. The graphics are horrible by today's standards. But the strategy is great.
If you like 3D puzzle games games. Try out "The Talos Principal". Just have the ibuprofen and Dramamine ready. Because that game makes a lot of people feel nauseous or get headaches. It's something to do with the camera mechanics. I could only go for an hour at a time before the eye strain would get to me. It's a really complex puzzle game with an overarching mystery to solve. Where how you solve some puzzles and answer questions, can affect the ending.
Oh no i meant that i prefer story over online lmao
Interesting you rather just collect them. Rider's looks so dope honestly, really looking forward to that one. Tbh every new game released recently just isn't worth it anymore. Forza's a great racer. I have Gamepass which has it but yeah I just don't play much. If I play a game it's for a project mostly. Nothing feels worth my time otherwise. New Mario Party Superstars brought back the old Mario Party games so that was honestly quite a recent favorite of mine. Just got the Switch OLED so, been replaying some things with that.
Riders looks amazing. I really wanna play it but i also really dont wanna wait for the xbox to update lmao.
Haha yeah updates take too long. Ruin the excitement a bit. I always set it up, go work or something and come back to it but. Anyways yeah I used to play Steep and go mountain biking on GTA 5 a ton. So pulling all that and a lot more into one game sounds perfect. Probably will be my favorite.
Omg u hated Steep but Riders Republic looks hopeful
*i hated

None. I don't buy new games anymore. Seventy dollars to pay for a buggy, broken piece of sh*t that needs a f*cking 20 GB day one patch when many people don't even have high speed internet? F*ck that!
Assuming I even still played as many games as I used to, I'd only buy things used, for sale, or pirate them. I downloaded Saints Row 2 and Streets of Rage Remake earlier this year, but I didn't pay for them.
But the last "new" game I bought was Pokemon Ultra Sun, from like, 2017? Was thinking about getting Pokemon Shining Pearl, and a Nintendo Switch Lite for the first time, but they're both garbage.
Forza Horizon and MLB are the only new things i really keep buying. I tried the switch for mariokart since i adored mariokart on N64 but nope the switch lite makes my hand cramp and the game is as awful as the nintendo DS 64 game. Smh
COD Vanguard and Far Cry 6. I barely played an hour of Far Cry 6 and less than 30 minutes of COD Vanguard though. Not much free time between work and school. I'll probably get Diablo 2 remastered and Halo Infinite too. I'm just waiting for black Friday in case there is a sale on Diablo 2. I still won't have enough time to play them though so the little gaming time I do have I mostly still play State of Decay 2, a game of Fifa 21, or Pinball FX3.
Oh, does Skyrim Anniversary count? lol They keep making different editions.
I would have got GTA trilogy too, but there seems to be lots of glitches and they removed some of the music from it too. I was mostly wanting to play Vice City again.
Oooo pinball
This year! I was about to buy Battlefield 2042 but nope, am gonna wait. I got Halo the new one, still waitting for release. I bought the GTA trilogy edition aaaand got refunded after 8 hours. Thank god i didn't buy the new Call of duty : vanguard. Crash bandicot. So far, maybe i will get few more when they make holidays sales.
Lmao what is the trilogy edition? A bundle of old games?
Yes! The did remastered edition, better graphics, better colors and all polished.
Holy smokes so Which games got remastered!! Cause i’d love to play a better lookin GTA III or SA
Nvm just looked. The character still look like ugly box people 🤣
Yeaah 🤣🤣. Quick money grap kind of thing. That is why i had to refund
TBH, I've not seen anything interesting being released in some time. Pinball FX3 is really the last 'game' that caught my interest, mostly because I've always been a huge pinball nut, but they've gone "Epic exclusive", so they can kiss my very white ass.
I still haven't got to see the witcher show yet
Okay :)
Lately I've found myself more interested in playing older titles.
They are more challenging, less pricey, aren't buggy, and don't constantly update.
Nearly every time I get a new game these days it just feels dissapointing, some more so than others.
Are they buggy because you're playing online? Or just in general?
Just in general, I have good internet, and I can tell when it's a bug vs internet latancy as well.
Most games today are riddled with game breaking bugs, microtransactions, grindy mechanics, and casual gameplay.
Sometimes a good new game comes out that works great and doesn't nickle and dime you, but its rare, and nothing this year was noteworthy in my opinion.
I actually get really happy when a friend wants to play 6th or 7th gen games tbh. I have a blast playing those.
fifth gen was also pretty good too.
I've been getting 12 games a month from Humble Bundle and have got some new releases on steam. I did 100% Horizon:Zero Dawn on PSNow and agree it is awesome.
Let's see, New World (a bit meh), Valheim (much better)
I want the new Age of Empires but can't dedicate time at the moment.
I'm sure there are more but my steam library is ridiculous and I don't know what most of the games are.
Is steam the one that lets you trade games digitally after so long
Don't think so, it seems to just be a cash sink for me :)
Newest game I got was Sword of the Necromancer.
It's a rogue like dungeon crawler released from Kickstarter in 2020
Latest game purchased is Spiderman 2018
Oooo was spiderman good
I don't typically buy new releases because my wishlist is unreasonably massive and there's always something on sale lol. I think the last "new release" I got was Golden Light.
Haha i understand
Bravely Default II
Metroid Dread
Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker expansion
I guess the others came out last year...
Hmm haven't heard of the first two
They are Switch exclusive, or at least were, Bravely Default II is now out on PC as well.
BDII is a classic turn based RPG, with two other games in that series on Nintendo DS.
And Metroid Dread is the newest 2D Metroid game, also on Switch. Was announced and released a month later to everyones surprise.
Looking through the list of releases 2021, i found some more
Ys IX Monstrum Nox
Blue Fire
Crash Bandicoot 4
Ender Lilies Quietus of the Night
Disgaea 6
The last new game I bought was picking up myself and a friend each a copy of Cyberpunk 2077; he desperately wanted it, and I figured "what the hell". After getting burned on Xcom, you'd think I'd've learned, but then, if I was going to do that, I'd've learned from Spore. But if THAT was going to do it, I'd've learned from Master Of Orion 3.
I guess I just forget and go through it again every few years.
Ahh i see
No Desi. If I'd buy any it would be a flight sim for sure ✈
I sucked at flying on GTA 🤣
Oooo
I'll be buying Halo Infinite. I've been waiting for this game for a loooong time
Glad you finally got it
Prepare to be dissapointed, that game is microtransaction hell and it's not even out yet.
@TheSpaceGnome Yeah, I know all about the monetization and battlepass progression situation (it is horrendous. I've been playing for days and still on level 4). I don't expect 343 to improve it overnight but gradually. Multiplayer is great gameplay-wise but campaign on December 8th is what I'm really looking forward to.
They aren't going to improve it gradually, they are going to keep adding limited time events for core items like the tenrai event, it's going to get much, much worse. Not better. Plus mcc does everything multiplayer better.
As far as campaign goes though, 4 and 5 have shown that 343 isn't capable of writing a good story.
I'll see when I get there.
I haven't purchased a new video game in about 2.5 years. Been trying to focus to find me a honey and working on body, mind, and trying to increase income somehow. I might treat myself to 1-2 new Switch titles after new years but aside from that basically just focusing on what I've been doing. Trying to save and move to the South me thinks.
I haaate the switch good lawd lmao
most of it's line up has been sorely disappointing to me as well. But having Skyrim on the go was kinda nice. Too bad they didn't bring Fallout 3 and New Vegas to it. What a waste! I like fire emblem and dynasty warriors too. Plus Attack on titan was pretty fun. PC remains my go to. I might get Diamond or Pearl for Switch though.
Yea its nuts
NEO: The World Ends With You
Persona 5 Strikers
Monster Hunter Rise
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
Bravely Default 2
Been mostly playing Switch games.
Didnyou like the minster hunter movie
Monster Hunter movie you mean? Nah, not really... Some bits were okay, but for the most part it was just... Bad. I do like how they made the monsters though, even though it's way harder to kill them in the games than it was in the movie. ... Plus, guns should work on those things. We do have Bowguns after all. But then again, those are very big bullets in comparison... Eh, it's whatever. Point is, way too serious when Monster Hunter is (mostly) light-hearted, shoehorned a whole new plot into a game with an already established plot that had basically nothing to do with what happened in the movie (there was no mention of another civilization or any of that bull, and the only time people from another world popped in was just for crossover content that ended right after the crossover monster was hunted and never really happened again unless you replayed it) and it just wasn't acted very well if you ask me. Oh and some of the characters looked off. The Admiral just did not look right at all. Plus, they could have easily just done a cinematic retelling of the beginning part of the game, change it up a tad to make it harder to deal with and achieve victory since they didn't have a superpowered player-controlled hunter on their side (us), and that would have gone really well. ... Point being, no I didn't like it lol.
I will say though that I'm not the biggest fan of Monster Hunter. I just started in World after all. Rise is my favorite so far. Stories is a totally different thing altogether.
Im sorry for the typos but yea You just gave a pretty good review
I bought halo infinite but damn these bugs are annoying. I am thinking about buying battlefield 2042 now.
Damg i bet that is annoying
Oh wow
I purchased 'Horizon Zero Dawn' for a person/friend in Brazil, and they are going to be returning the favour!
Whats that about
The game, or purchasing as a gift?
The game
The plot follows Aloy, a young hunter in a world overrun by machines, who sets out to uncover her past. The player uses ranged weapons, a spear, and stealth to combat mechanical creatures and other enemy forces. A skill tree provides the player with new abilities and bonuses. The player can explore the open world to discover locations and take on side quests.
Without a doubt, one of the best games I have played, and will more than likely be the only game I keep playing!
It is Offline Singleplayer, the second to be released Feburary 2022 has been told may have Multiplayer campaign!
Oh wow you make it sound exciting
It is currently on offer on 'Steam'.
My friend code: 1253057032
I pre ordered NBA 2k22. I played it once and never again. I used to love those games. NBA 2k19 was alright but the ones after that I regret ever buying
Ikr like its hard to play games more than once or twice now. Im just not into stuff like that anymore
Brilliant Dismond and Shining Pearl. Also if Bravely Default II came out this year too I bought it. I bought MLB: The Show 21 last year, even if it wasn't released until this year.
Yea i bought that MLB game and haven't even opened it lmao 🤣 i haven't opened any of em
Madden and The Show. I also picked up Spiderman with Miles. Thinking picking up Far Cry 6 before new years but not sure yet.
Whats the show about
Well its called MLB the The Show
@Peenshake oh lmao duhh! All i saw was The Show 🤣
@Peenshake i bought one of the show games and its still wrapped in plastic lmao. I haven't played a baseball video game since ps2 😂
@Peenshake i love baseball. Its the only sport i would play on a videogame aside from maybe surfing or snowboarding. But then again welcome Riders Republic
I just find B-ball, Football, soccer and even golf games more entertaining as a videogame. For me it helps to have someone playing it with me. Just that connective reason to play. Used to play all the sports games with my dad but yeh. I don't know I'll try all the new ones available on Gamepass maybe just for kicks. Thanks @kellytheman you've inspired me to play sports titles again
@Peenshake i prefer them in person but i like racing as a videogame
I buy mainly sports games F1 2021 and Fifa 22 but I got who want to be millionaire and family feud
I want wheel of fortune
I saw that too I did not buy it though
