I couldn't choose just one, sorry 😅
https://www.youtube.com/embed/YVkUvmDQ3HYhttps://www.youtube.com/embed/DksSPZTZES0https://www.youtube.com/embed/RB-RcX5DS5AIt would have to be an extraordinary year if someone could choose only one, i think.
So many good choices. 1971 was one of the best years for music. I guess I think this one is about the best.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/KlFPDi1B-jMIt’s definitely a classic! My ex might disagree. I have a cousin that sang this every time they met. If she ever dug it, he almost certainly changed her mind! Ell oh ell!
Here are two of my favorite songs from the year I was born.

Probably from the group The Moody Blues, in your wildest dreams, I think it’s close to when I was born

Maybe I will
I was born in 99, but the closest song I have is this one:

I sometimes wonder how Abba flew so far under the radar in their time.
I think they actually flew far above the radar if you look at Eurovision 74 and their tours in the 80s. Their success is actually pretty stunning. Their Australia tour rivaled Prince Charles and Princess Diana's visit. Etc. My dad introduced me to their music when I was 5 and we moved to Germany.
Okay. Clearly a relative comparison. ABBA’s popularity in Europe exceeded their popularity in the US a fair bit.
How long were you in Europe? Do you speak, read and write in German? Can you sing along to BOTH versions of “99 Red Balloons”?

In case you’re rusty. Ell oh ell!
You brought back memories! And yes, you're right: global popularity was way higher outside the US than in.
Lived in Germany for a little over four years. Can pronounce German flawlessly, read a very little bit, and can understand some of what's said to me. 10% maybe? Really not a lot.
I can sing along to both versions of 99 Red Balloons! Just not from memory!
I also know Silent Night and I Christmas Tree in German. Drives my wife nuts because that's how I sing them at church. One kid is taking German in school so now he does the same thing and my daughter does it to annoy mom.
That’s one of my favorite songs of all time! I know nothing of German, but the meter is identical so i sing in English even when i hear the German version!
I envy your worldliness and i dig that your kids are similarly worldly and clearly very clever. Fear the day they exceed you, good sir, and long for it at the same time! Ell oh ell!
