Haven’t heard rap in French since MC Solaar back in the day, haha. Song’s not bad, I just don’t understand the lyrics, so it’s just kind of whatever to me. Always glad to see hip hop going worldwide though👍

Haha, I’m American. I don’t know him super well, but I’ve always listened to rap as long as I’ve consumed music, so I’ve encountered a lot of different stuff. In this case, I had a buddy in college who was good with languages. He was fluent in Spanish and Hebrew, and he knew a lot of French too. He also was a big fan of rap, and he knew of MC Solaar, who I had once heard of back in high school, but had yet to listen to. There was no Internet yet so it was harder to explore music. But my college friend was onto him, and I got to hear MC Solaar through him.

To be honest, in my perspective, it was kind of a novelty, just like “whoa…. it’s a guy rapping, but it’s not in English!”🤯😂 I wish I spoke more French though. I know enough where I can figure out some of the song titles, lmao, but I can’t understand the lyrics, and that’s a bummer, because my understanding is that his whole thing is that he’s a great lyricist.

He hates that he profits from his communities suffering caused by its own members. It also implies there aren’t other options because that’s their culture. That’s the live on love and fresh water lyric-everything he’s “earned” is tainted or poisoned built on the pain of people in his community.

The reality with communities is you can either rely on society to raise you up, or take up your cross and collectively raise society up.

I still don’t like how it’s rap is mostly someone monotonously talking for minutes in a one-note melody like the “pain” is that bad. That doesn’t stop other vocalists.
