It all really took off with Hulk Hogan. He also carried it on into a couple of new eras. He is the greatest of all time, not Undertaker. Not sure why anyone would think Undertaker to be the greatest of all time.

But a favourite? I think Chris Jericho. He was always funny on the microphone and had good matches.

Neither Undertaker nor The Rock would’ve been famous if it wasn’t for Hulk Hogan. Both owe some of the biggest moments of their careers to matches against him.
Hulk Hogan was the one who made wrestling famous. His high energy charismatic persona captured the interest like no other wrestler before him. He didn’t even have pyro or video screens for his entrances. All he did was show his face and the people popped the roof off. These days, you never get reactions like that for anyone.

If it wasn’t for him, wrestling would’ve just remained a kind of carnival act. It could not have worked with another person, they specifically needed him. Sometimes there’s a man, well, he’s the man for his time and place. Hulk Hogan was certainly that.

There was also a stigma on pro wrestling then and Hulk Hogan helped to break that by being in the successful film Rocky 3. If it wasn’t for that, The Rock would’ve been overlooked for movie roles due to him coming from a wrestling family. There are so many ways Hulk Hogan paved the way. I mean Ric Flair was also a big name but not to the whole world like Hogan. Only to people in the United States who followed wrestling. Hogan was the first truly world famous wrestler.

In fact, there’s a very old clip out there from the 1980s. It was one of the old WWF shows and Oprah Winfrey was there just going absolutely nuts for Hulk Hogan to the point of making the people around her uncomfortable. This would never happen between 2 celebrities these days.

Wrestling changed so much because of Hogan and people who jumped on the wagon later just never understand. That’s why when the question of who the goat wrestler was, many ignorant Johnny-come-lately’s will name someone like Undertaker or Shawn Michaels and it is simply not the right answer.
