If you made a game, what would it be about?

I'm actually a former game developer (although now working in computer graphics). Mostly I made role-playing and strategy games. They were all small indie projects.

Also worked for FASA for a time (although very small role as a programmer only, no design over the game) on a game called MechWarrior 2:

It was a vehicular combat simulation game. Not my top choice for games I'd design but I just had a small part developing some of the code for the graphics as a teenager (worked for FASA contractually through the internet; they noticed my little indie games and offered me a small part developing the game). The game looks so crude by today's standards but it was relatively cutting-edge back then using software rasterization without any GPU acceleration.

The game also had some nifty music. That was one of the most memorable parts to me although I had nothing to do with the soundtrack.

I'm actually dreaming of retiring and returning to indie gamedev one day. Hoping to design an SRPG similar to the likes of Shining Force and X-COM: UFO Defense (definitely with time units/action points for very complex and thought-provoking turn-based strategy).

I've often thought it'd be cool to Jagged Alliance meets Mount & Blade by way of X-Com. The logical (well, logical as per the chain of associations entirely in my head) setting would be a Darklandsish version of the disputed territory at the borders of the Byzantine and Sassanid empires at the end of the seventh century, with the rising forces of the Caliphate encroaching from the south.

Of course, doing that is way beyond my abilities, and doing it justice even more so. But I can dream...

It would be like Oldschool Runescape but all modern and new and with different playable races. Because I love the world and its creatures and in games I like how, when there are different races, people lean towards one or the other. It results in a fantasy world with all kinds of races blended together. Like a fairytale book and you just in it.

I ended up getting burnt out from the game industry working on MMOs. They're seemingly never-ending projects. But Runescape always seemed like one of the better ones to me.

@GuyAnswersGirls123 The combat also doesn't have over nine thousand hotkeys or some crazy rotation when it comes to combat. I'd make it so you could also play using keyboard instead of just clicking.

I never tried it myself but does it rely on cooldowns? I'm not necessarily against cooldowns but I always thought that's an artifact of the latency and bandwidth issues we had that seems kind of weird to keep in games today. I tend to prefer when the skill can be used as fast as the animations allow without a cooldown meter we have to eyeball the whole time.

@GuyAnswersGirls123 Some weapons have a special attack which uses a stamina bar that refills, but that's really about it as far as cooldowns go.

Sounds nice! I wasn't a big fan of WoW when it came out since I felt like I'm just waiting for cooldowns to recharge the whole time.

I always found the ones in Vampire: The Masquerade really interesting since they're all just different races of vampires, but so varied culturally and physically.

They looked the most monstrous to me! They were actually my least favorite since I wanted to be a good-looking vampire. 😅 I liked the Toreadors into art and beauty as well as the Ventrue into aristocracy and nobility.

i would make a world war 2 table game, but pick a certain month and with historian help me to start the game ACCURATELY... and let dice and players decide the outcome.

i used to like game "axis and allies version 1980" i was nerd, but in college i researched the details of major warships then. very disappointing. sigh.

the most glaring flaws, my pet peeves is russia 3 zones from moscow to pacific despite the thin part of the ball... in contrast to 3 zones from pacific to jordan river for fat part of ball. absurd! bias to unjustly help russia and give it production potential wrongly. similarly in africa truly huge but unjust points for allies and bad division when compared to Canada and australia. also jungle and desert no way ten productions potential in africa.

also in that version couldn't attack australia from philipines. absurdly close.

also no industry in manchuria. very disappointing to learn 1942 very different.

It would be a sandbox open world survival set to a to-scale map of my home region.

It would a physics/vehicle/gun simulation and survival game with zombies, demons, aliens, and other creatures as the enemies, with elements of supernatural, paranormal, and horror in there as well.

I like guns but I don't like the idea of violence against fellow humans so inhuman targets would be the choice. And realistic tactical shooters have been done to death. You know its actually possible to get bored shooting nazis and communists in the face? Well it is. You play one Call of Duty you've played them all.

So I figure zombies, demons, aliens, and other creatures yet unseen would be the best option.
